Hi,
I just got word that my boyfriend is being transferred to Susanville next week:(.
Can anyone give me the 411 on this prison. I'm going try and visit memorial day weekend. As much information as I can get on the visiting process, what I can wear, lodging etc. would be much appreciated.
Thanks

My brother left there abour 60 days ago, so I don't think it has changed much. First, make sure you end up at CCC and not HDSP, they are right next to each other!! Check in at the trailer and they will give you a number and tell you when to head over to processing. They will bus you in from there. Make sure you can't see skin between your shirt and your pants, even if you bend over. They don't seem to trip on tight, but they do on short. Nothing sleeveless. Don't get carried away on the cleavage and they don't trip too much on seeing SOME chest..but no boobs! The staff is generally nice, if you are friendly and don't have attitude of your own. The visiting room is the most laid back I've ever seen. No assigned seating, people moving around, kids playing. I've even seen two inmates at the same table with their visitors. I've never been terminated because of crowding there, but if you show up first thing, it CAN happen. They kick you out at count time, to let more people in. It can take a LONG time for them to find your guy, even if he's expecting you...I never did figure out why.
I used to stay in a little motel right on the main drag....dark wood, looked like A frames, on your left..unless you come in from Reno! I can't for the life of me remember the name. Run by Hindus, if that bothers you. But clean and cheap. IF you are going to go a lot, get to talking to them and knowingthem and they may give you a discount after the first few times. PM me, if you want and I'll try to answer any other questions. Good Luck!

We are headed up to CCC on Friday for our first visit. What time should we arrive on Saturday morning?

I've never been there early, because if the visiting room gets crowded they terminate visits at the noon count, and it's first in, first out. I used to try to get there at about 10, because it usually wasn't crowded and I could get in before count and hopefully get him out before count. I do not know what takes those folks so long to find inmates that are in their dorms, waiting for us, but I've had it take an hour and a half. If it seems like it's taking long, my advice is to sit in front of the staff desk so they are sure to notice you waiting. It always worked for me, and seating isn't assigned, so you can move when he comes out. If this is your first visit, make sure he checks in with the CO at the desk before you approach him, they can get into trouble for that.
