I will go to Texas next December to visit my sweet friend in Polunsky. I'd like to know how long I can visit him in a week. I heard there were "special visits" for people coming from overseas. Can you give me details about it? Thanxxx a lot!

You can do 2, four hour special visits if you come from interstate or overseas. You can have those once a month, so you can have 8 hours. I did mine, got a Saturday night (end of visit week), his regular 2 hour, then had 4 hours Monday, and 4 hours Tuesday, and cause the next week was May, did the same. You can also split those 4 hours up, to 2, two hours consecutive a day (so like you can have 2 hours Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs).
Arghhhhhhhhh Im confusing myself here, hope this made sense.

I never heard of the possibility to split the special visits for one month in four, also that you can get an additional regular one after having a special one already in that week. I thought they would be only permitted to have one visit a week, with exception to the special ones. If this is really true then I missed loads of hours during years. Damn! Did you schedule the special visits thisway already before when you called? I would like to learn more about it!

Just to be safe, I would check with the unit, Death Row inmates are subject to wholly different rules than regular offenders. You can't do it on the same week. Say you are flying in on Friday night and have specials booked for Monday and Tues. You can go that Sat if you want to. Or if you have specials Thrus or Fri and don't leave till Tuesday. Well you can have a regular on Monday. That sort of thing.

He can have 1 regular visit (2 hours) and 2 special visits (2 x 4 hours) in one week (once a month) - when I come from overseas?

And if I visit in the end of one month and in the beginning of the next - I can actually do that 2 weeks in a row?

The regular one is extra and can't be taken during the same week in that you take a special one. So if you arrive two weeks before the month ends, or leave 2 weeks after the month began, you can add a regular one. Is this somehow understandable?

I think I understand - so if I arrive on a Friday - I can get a regular on Saturday - and 2 special visits the next week (Monday and Tuesday?)?
And if the following week is also next month I can have 2 special visits in that week as well?

Honestly..., that is pretty bad. You either have the possiblilty then to go Friday for a special and Saturday for a regular ( cause then you don't get specials ever), or Monday and Tuesday for the specials, but for February you can't have visits at all, cause the week started already the Monday before, you see? You would have to stay till the 7th to get the next specials. It's always depending on the days of the months, and these are just crap. If you compare it to march for example, then the last day is a Friday, so directly after the weekend you could have the next visits, but thtas not the case when you go. I'm real sorry, but I don't think someone else could tell you something different even though I wished it for you. all the sam, I wish you all luck for your trip!!!

With those dates the best you can do is this.... specials on the 26th and 27th and specials on the 2nd and 3rd. If there was a way to take a night flight home on the 6th you can have a regular on the 6th as well. I used to do that just an idea.

I'm very sorry... I didn't think of the 26th since I thought thats when the planes lands. Its true, when you don't go at the 30th and 31st , then you can take for sure the 2nd and 3rd as well. Big apology!!!

Ohhh nooo - I thought I was doing the right thing.... I did not plan on going on the 26th since I get into Houston at 2pm - and then need to drive to Livingston etc. - do you know how late you can visit?

How about it if I did this:

Went for specials the 27th and the 28th
Went for a regular on the 30th
Went for specials on the 3rd and the 4th

Could I do that????

No, you can't do that. To the best of my knowledge you can't have a special on a Sat and you can't have a special the week of a regular, that I know for sure.

The only thing you can do is have a regular on the 27th or the 28th and have your specials on the 2nd and the 3rd.

What you might be able to do (if they are in agreement in the Warden's office) is use one half of January's special visit on Friday 27th - so you will only have 4 hours on that day and forfeit the rest of the month's entitlement.
Then do your Feb special on Thurs 2nd and Fri 3rd Feb.
So total visiting time would be 12 hours.

I have only used half a special visit before. Just explain to the Warden's secretary that your flights can't be changed. They usually try to be helpful if they can.
