My boyfriend is about to be sent to prison. I know that they have issued the Day for Day good time for drug offenses but have they done it for everyone yet? I have also heard that they are sending pepole home on tethers(if they are non-violent) if they are within one year of their out date. This will apply to my boyfriend because he will only have to serve 1 year. I am having a hard time finding out anything. Any info would be appreciated... Thanks

Welcome to PTO!! I do not know for 100% the answers to your questions....I think things are still being sorted out in Michigan, but maybe someone will come along who knows the answers 100% for you. Lots of rumors are floating around...

There are definitely a lot of rumors flying around Michigan right now. I heard that Granholm just rounded up over 100 violent parole violators (with more coming) to lock them back up. So, instead of releasing people, it seems that we are adding. Of course I do believe that if you are on parole and you go out and rob someone or something like that, you definitely should be back in prison. But, it seems we are going the opposite way. I did hear about the tether thing, and how they have to be within one year of their parole for non violent offenders and within 30 days (I think) for violent offenders. From what my boyfriend told me, you have to have an outdate from the board before they will do that. So, I don't really understand all of it. Either way, welcome to PTO! It's nice to see another Michigander on here. I swear Michigan is going to over take Texas and Cali soon! LOL

THE RUMORS ARE DEFINITELY FLYING IN MICHIGAN ABOUT EARLY PAROLES/RELEASES BECAUSE OF OVERCROWDING BUT IS IT HAPPENING YET, I'M NOT SURE. I HAVE SEEN THINGS ON TETHERS, COMMUNITY HOUSING, CONDITIONAL REINTEGRATION PROGRAM. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR ANY INFORMATION RELATED TO THIS BUT I DO NOT THINK ANYTHING IS DEFINITE BUT I WILL CONTINUE TO LOOK. WELCOME TO PTO BECAUSE THIS IS THE PLACE TO LOOK FOR AND FIND INFORMATION PLUS YOU CAN JUST TALK IF YOU NEED TO. :)

Hi and welcome to PTO!!

I haven't read anything specific....I swear rumors in prison are far worse than any place I've EVER worked at!!! And you never know WHAT the MDOC will do tomorrow - they change the rules like most of us change our underwear.

Lately I've seen guys who screwed up and got paroles and those who have done everything they are supposed to do and stayed out of trouble and not get them.

PTO is a great source of information....when one of us finds something in writing we ususally post it.

Well, I am afraid that I can only say the same as the others....I have heard rumors, but nothing concrete as of yet.

Welcome to PTO though! This is a great place for information, and support.

I have a friend in Jackson and my boyfriend will be sentenced tomorrow for a 1 to 20 sentence. The Day for Day thing is for drug offenses for sure(or so says the friend). At the pre-trial I heard the prosecuter say that they just started day for day for eveyone else. My friend did say that they are sending a lot of people home because there are not enough beds. He is there for a tether violation and he might get sent home on a tether in one month ( 6 months before his outdate).

I'm hoping that they are doing what they say they are doing, we see the parole board next week, and I'm hoping they let my hubby out soo, He's not in for a drug offense or a violent crime. Hopefully next week will bring some good news for us!

DAY FOR DAY!!!! REALLY? OMG I have yet to hear that or see that in writing. Please find where I can find this in writing. OMG you have my head swirling, cus if that is the case ALL our babies in ther for non violent drug offenses have a WONDERFUL chance at earlier parole. Man I so need to know if this is for absolute truth. MY Poor Rob would probably cry if this is the case.

Ok-Dumb question here. What exactly is day for a day? If you could explain it in "Jeni" terms, that would be great. LOL
Robert's original charge is considered violent, but his parole violation is anything but violent. If Michigan was doing day for a day, would that even apply to him?

I am going to visiting today I will ask Rob myself. He told me once how it worked, but I have a horrible memory. lol I did look it up on the internet and all I found was a press release suggesting that they start implementing day-for-day. But no real law or confirmation on if it is in affect. I will be back tomorrow to tell you all if I find out anything!

Ok went to visit yesterday and asked Rob what exactly Day-for-Day meant and it means exactly what it says. For every day you do you get a day off your sentence. In his case he has a minimum of 5 yrs on his sentence which means he could be eligible for parole in 2 1/2 if this Day-for-Day was in affect. I have yet to find if it is indeed in affect in the state of michigan. All I have found so far is press release suggesting they put it back into affect!

No I don't think so, I think it's for All non-violent offenders, the target seems to be the drug offenders, but non-violent offenders are being reviewd as well. and then I think or HOPE they will go on down the line. But the problem is the Truth in Sentencing Law is holding up alot of the debate. What I think we should try to do is revise truth in sentencing. It used to only be for sex offenders, etc. Violent offenders only. Now it pertains to ALL offenders.

I wish these people would get it together! We had our parole hearing about 3 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. Brad is not serving for a violent offence, or a sex offence, or a drud offense. He has done 5 1/2 years for Home Invasion 2nd degree and they gave him 5 1/2 to 15 to teach him a lesson sonce the same judge had sentenced his dad and brother over and over again!

Then I just hear that the sheriff that raped a women in 1999, got 3 to 15 and was released this morning after only serving 3 years?? Where is the justice in this?? I can't beleive that someone who rapes someone would get off with a lessor charge then someone who broke into someone's house and stole 3 jars of quarters in 3 different houses. Sometimes it never makes sence no matter how you try and look at it.

Boy, do I agree Michelle. The sherriff didn't even take the Sex Offender's classes that they mandate everyone else with an offense take or the Parole Board won't even look at their file....Course he was a sherriff for 23 years or something like that and is politically connected.....
