My fiance is in Buckingham CC in Dillwyn VA, and I wanted to find out if I could send any kind of reading materials to him.

I am not familiar with that prison - but i believe that he can't. i know my man can't receive ANYTHING that it takes more than ONE stamp to send. What i do is send him a money order, then he can order books for himself. Most prisons have decent libraries - maybe he can see what they have there!

My guy can only receive money orders, no books or anything like that. He can buy things himself through approved catalogs though.

I have a loved one incarcerated in Dillwyn. Like ErinVA and Daveysgirl said I also would say so to. From what I understand from my loved one, he can order anything Dillwyn allows and they give them a list, I do believe. I know for fact when they order their clothes it has to be a certain type along with tennis shoes, white and certain styles. He does get the news papers from different parts of the state and USA today. The books is a need be and I feel DOC should supply them with learning, teaching, positive, encouraging books myself without the families or inmates having to worry. Some inmates and families cannot afford. That is deprieving a individual that does want to learn a better way, a new skill, about choices they have in what different learning tools are available to learn a different way of life or not to waste a positive, roll model inmate's brain cause of a bad choice they made and they are incarcerated. Books is the key to knowledge. A mind is a terriable thing to waste. Sorry for the spill. We will find out more in this group and I will ask my loved one out there, the details. We do not touch on that much cause he got locked up prior to all the courses and trades being taken away. I have a folder full of courses and trades he took and passed. He accomplished alot before they took everything and I honesty believe from looking at the dates on them, that is why he and some many gave up on hope in a better way when everything was taken away. :shake: And others wonder why things happen when everything is taken and nothing is left.

my man is in dillwyn, and he cant receive anything fromthe outside except money orders, letters and pictures. and when you send pic's it can only be 3 to 4 or 5 pic's in an envelop at a time or they will send it back with no question. now buckingham is right down theraod from dillwyn and they have the same rules. things just have to change soon. but they can only order from the doc.
