I AM PLEASED TO SEE THAT THIS FORUM HAS OPENED. I BELIEVE THAT SUCH PLACES TO TALK WITH PEOPLE OPENLY AND WITHOUT JUDGEMENT ARE VERY MUCH NEEDED. SOME OF US STRAIGHT PEOPLE HAVE SO MUCH MISCONCEPTION ABOUT YOUR RELATIONSHIPS THAT WE INADVERTANTLY HURT PEOPLE BY OUR IGNORANCE, EVEN IF WE WISH TO BE SUPPORTIVE.
HOPEFULLY YOU WILL HELP PEOPLE HERE AS YOU DO IN THE OTHER FORUMS. I AM SURE THAT THIS WILL BE A SUCCESS. SO CONGRADULATIONS ON THE BIRTH OF THIS NEW PLACE. GOOD LUCK TO ALL.

Thank you for this Hello and Congratulations...! We appreciate it - really!

Sharon, we are all (I believe) 'ignorant' about some of the issues and societies of the world today. We are all guilty. It is difficult to understand everyone and what makes them tick and so when we are not exposed directly we tend to follow popular convention and opinion.

In my experience it is all about 'understanding' or if not understanding having a full plate of knowledge in front of you whether the person is gay or of another race or religion. Sometimes we only see the difference and not he many, many things that are the same or even better - what is good about that person. It sometimes only seems to come down to a label. Once labeled then you are labeled!

Although we really want this forum to be dedicated to dealing with issues that arise for GLBT people in prison we also realize that there may be general questions as well. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have a question. If you don't feel comfortable posting the question then you are welcome to PM me.
