Barbara, I was looking through all the posts and noticed there are qiute a few people on here who do live in cali. I am in hollywood, L.A . But it sounds like a good idea, i'm not sure exactly what happens in these get togethers, but I was thinkin maybed we could also get involved in activism. Like for example, the 3 strikes law, maybe we can help put that in the ballot. Or what about the shu in pelican bay, I heard there is alot of injustice there. But either way, I would be so glad to have a get togethor, do you know if there are any upcoming ones?

Yeah, we had planned a NOrthern and Southern Cali g2g b/c some of us can't make it up north an some of us can't make it down south.

Personally, I'm as close to the border as they come on PTO...so I don't mind the drive anywhere but here...but for our NorCo residents, it's gotta be tough to get down here.

Whatever you guys decide, make sure everything is posted (ie directions and time) so that everyone can make it :)

You want to know what happened at our little get together at Ken's LOL we ate our brains out and talked like crazy! We would probably have to start with one in S. Cal for us and the folks up north will work on one up there. Let me give it some thought and I will post something on it. So Cal has TONS of neat spots...There's a HUGE park in San Diego for those of you who would be interested...Balboa park has TONS of things to do too...there's a space museum, there's a huge park area, the zoo is nearby, there's fountains, there's paths to walk and it's REALLY close to TONS of good food!

I know Huntington and Westminster and a bit of Newport so if you want to go OC bound, I can help with that...I know there's a park at the corner of Magnolia and Titus in Westminster...I'm not sure if there's bbq's there or anything.

BSS you know a TON more than I do about OC, so you might be better with that than I am :)

Soul, what if we had it in Griffith Park, it's here in L.A and it's huge! There is the gene Autry museum nearby, and a zoo! And a bar-Bq area. It's near the Hollywood sign too! but whatever we decide, the most important thing is to get 2 gether and hopefully make some changes in this world. P.S barbara, is your son still at the shu?

I am here in AZ but really want to meet with all you folks. Sonny my hubby, is in Calipatria, which is in between AZ and San Diego. Anywhere in S. CA is good. I'm from LA so I have friends there to stay with! Lets get this together! I felt so bad I couldn't make it to the TX conference!! OK I have some ideas, if you guys are interested I'll work something up. Being that we are all from the general So.Cal area it shouldn't cost much at all. I'm thinking along the lines of a weekend type meeting. A Friday night getogether so we can all meet & talk. Then a meeting on Saturday & Sunday. We would need two volunteers to host these. One for each day. I'm thinking from 10am to 6pm each day. We can have a pot luck type of layout for food. I will need to know how many people we are talking about so we know who has enough room to host this. From the looks of it, & from my experiance, we will only get about 10 people. Which for this area is pretty good. Barbara, some of my ideas have to do with you, & I could use your help, if your willing to go for it. Let me know, & we will see where this thing will go.-------Ken

Sorry I have been really busy lately. I talked to Barbara, & we did some preliminary planning. What we are thinking is along these lines. We can either do a Sat. gettogether or we can do a Sat. & Sun. gettogether. Barbara & I have enough between the two of us for a one day meeting. One of us would lead the morning session, & the other the afternoon session. My session would be on prison life, & support of families. Barbara's main theme will be activism, & what we can do. I was also thinking of a Friday evening getogether for a few hours just to meet, & get to know each other. We could do this at a restaurant, or if someone wants to host it. We also need someone who can host the Sat. meeting. We will do a pot luck, so everyone can bring some food, & BYOB (Bring your own bottle, what ever you drink). As a last resort we can do it at my house, but it can get cramped, & it is a mess, LOL. Now if someone else thinks they have any ideas that would fill up another day, we could turn it into a whole weekend. But as it stands now we only have enough for a one day meeting. As fpr dates, I am open. I was thinking of maybe Memorial day weekend, which is in like 5-6 weeks, or before. So this is what we need input on

1. Do we do a Friday night get together & Saturday meeting
2. Who has enough room to hold this meeting. I'm thinking it will probably be about 10-15 people at the very most.
3. What date do we hold this.
4. Does anyone have any other ideas so we can expand this to a Sunday too. You would need to be able to hold a 4 hour session, & we would need two people, one for Sun morning, & one for Sun afternoon.
5. If we have a Sunday session, who can host this meeting. It too would be a pot luck, & BYOB
6. A roll call as to who will be coming to these meetings.

If you guys don't want a meeting, we can do just a meet & greet type of get together.

Hi I'm new to PTO and I would love to have a get together. I also have 2 girls that I carpool with who would also love to go....We're usually first in line in the morning at the prison so if its a for sure thing I could make flyers and hand them out before entering prison grounds. I live in Southern California (San Bernardino).

i live in hollister---near gilroy & san jose. i do know that from me LA is like 4 hrs (w/the way i drive) & SD area was another 2 hours. id be willing to like go north (although im kinda anal about SF)...im cool w/going south..and im cool w/this area.

Lissey, there is a G2G happening in SF on the 29th of July. Read the post called "Mini Meet" for more details. I live about an hour away from you to the north. I'd love to have a G2G in our area. July 29th is kind of bad for me + Cliff, he has an operation scheduled for the 28th. I'm going to try to go though! Perhaps we can have another one for the Bay Area in August?

I would love to be a part of any meeting with all of you. Everytime i come here i feel so much better about my situation. I have really no one to talk to about my boyfriend and his situation. I think there was someone else from Monterey area too, and we are centrally located...the only thing that stinks, is that it's expensive here and also our airport is so tiny and expensive. I'd be willing to fly down south if anyone wants to do a west coast thang. :)

What fun it would be to all get together in california... But alot of people don't have money to stay in a hotel.... So I'll open up Minnie motel no tell... I have a two story home in Eagle Rock. Close to all the freeways..I have alot of room, if you don't mind sleep on the floor. Remeber those high school stay overs? I'm new to pto, and live in the high desert, I would be interested in attending a g2g. I can make it anywhere south, I am from San Diego, and love Balboa park, Griffith park is nice too. Okay it is now July 2004...... Has this meeting taken place yet?? I am in Northern Cali. I live in East Palo Alto, and that is about 30 miles south or San Francisco. If I can drive to HIgh Dessert in Susanville, I can drive anywheres. Or I can ride on my broomstick -- it uses less gas!!!!!

I really think it would be a good idea to have a conference in Los Angeles. Even though I live in san diego, I would come up to go to that. I think it would be helpful to the women who have loved ones in prisons throughout California. The CDC is trying to tear our black men down and give them not hope whatsovever of having a life outside. They have taken so much from the prisons that the morale is so bad that most of them stay on lockdown. There is nothing for them to be positive about. So yes let' have a conference in Calfornia.:p

I'm in SF...Sacramento is great...Fresno area is good...my son's in Soledad, so Monterey is good...you name it and I'll show up! We had a GTG in SF last year (two long tables for dinner at Delancy Street restaurant down by the waterfront, and a few who stayed in SF for the whole weekend). If anyone wants to pick a "reasonable" restaurant in their area and a date and see how many sign up, that would be great!

I live in the South Bay area of Los Angeles and would be very interested in being apart of this. You know it is alot to carry when you really can't talk to friends or co-workers about what you are going through. They will never understand.
