Does anyone have information on Black River Correctional? My son was told he'd be going to jackson Corr. 1st for about a month and than to Black River for Boot Camp. I'd like to find out things like visitation, Who can visit? When we can visit. He is still in Dodge he went to what they call the barricks he told me that when you get staffed they put you there and you could be leaving soon. I hope they wait till after Weds. 5/4/84 it is his 21st birthday! what a place to spend it anyway if they take him soon I know it takes a couple of days to get visitation set up and than I wouldn't be able to see him. Any way I'd be thankfull for some answers.

My man was at Black River Correctional for a few months in '02. I've heard they've since changed the format of the institution to a "boot camp" facility. All I can tell you is the experiences I had back in '02. When Timm was there, we had 8 hour outdoor visits. There is an outdoor visiting area that's set up like a county park...you have your built in grill and picnic tables, plenty of space, and the most privacy we ever had when he was locked up. He worked at the on-site farm, and sometimes left to clean the parks nearby. When you go to visit, I recommend staying the night and checking out the state forests and parks, if you're into that sort of thing. I had the most fun visiting my man at BRF because I would take some of our friends with and we'd go camping, then I got to sit with my baby for 8 whole hours...grilling steaks, playing games, sitting next to each other and holding hands...it was awesome.
If your son is given the opportunity to go to boot camp, I would strongly suggest encouraging him to do so. It's not easy, but it is the only program left that actually helps the inmates to reform their lives, take a serious look at the pain they've caused, and help them to deal with any emotional or drug issues they had on the street. My man drives 5 hours to the St. Croix Correctional Camp every year to go to the reuinion celebration. He loves to give back to the only institution that helped him while he was locked up. This is a man who went in for drug dealing and possession of a loaded firearm, and believe me, this wasn't his first run-in with the law. Boot camp was the only thing that helped him change, and I'm happy to report that he has stayed clean and out of trouble for the 1.5 years he has been home:)
