Take a breath. You just wrote to your husband last week that you were moving.........you are afraid that he will transfer before you can visit. You wrote to him just one week ago about significant changes that must have been "unexpected".

If you think that PTO members have a direct "hotline" to any prison for messages, you are mistaken. Transfers within the prison system don't happen very quickly; you have time to write a letter for him to respond to you at your new location. Not too many people move that fast without their loved ones knowing the "planned move". The CDC needs to know where to send the approval letter for visitation, not to mention your loved one needs the same information. You are way too speedy for a resolution at this time. T

Do you have a forwarding address at the post office? Do you know what building he is in? I go every weekend but unless he happens to be in the same building they can't communicate easily.

First of all, send a postcard. Postcards get in super-fast, because they don't have to be opened and checked for contraband.

Second of all, there IS an "Inmate Locator" phone number. If you have his CDC # or his exact full name and birthdate, you can call it, and they'll tell you which prison he is at. Then you can call that prison, and get his housing number.

I don't recall the Inmate Locator number offhand, but you can get it at our website, www.vspw-ifc.com (http://www.vspw-ifc.com) . I'm the Valley State Prison for Women secretary, for a volunteer group that meets there with the warden every couple of months and brings up issues from inmates and family members. I have the information for contacting Wasco's IFC, but I don't think they could tell you any more than what I've just given you.

Sincerely, Nancy L. Rubinstein, Secretary, VSPW Inmate Family Council

This is what is on the CDC site. Someone please correct the number if it is incorrect, I haven't called in a while.

http://www.corr.ca.gov/CDC/Inmate_Locator.asp Inmate Locator link.

To locate an inmate within the California Department of Corrections, please call (916) 445-6713, which is available 24 hours a day. You must have either the inmate's CDC number, or the inmate's full name and date of birth to receive information. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will provide an inmate's location, mailing addresses and relevant phone numbers. The Inmate Locator/ID Warrants will not provide any future release date information. Please note that for new or transferring inmates it can take up to seven business days to update location information.

When I used this before they were very nice and helpful and fast with the information.

My husband is also in wasco, he arrived may 16, 2005, it's going to take up to 45 buiss. days for you to get approved to visit him. and if he just arrived, he will not recieve any mail for the first 30 to 60 days. what is he in for? if you don't mind me asking. My husband has been moved around 4 times already to diffrent towers in the facility. what level is he in? I know the feeling. My husband wrote me and said they have no access to phones. It's going to take about 3 to 8 months before they send him off to the prision he will do his time.
