hello everyone....my husband just got sent to prison, I am totally new to this whole system, he is currently in intake at the Goree Unit...his first parole date is February 15,2008.....I'm only hoping and praying he doesn't get sent too far away from us....by the way we just had a baby boy on February 4,2005 and he looks just like his dad....its get really hard sometimes, I find myself dealing with such a broad range of emotions...I welcome any advice that will help me through this journey....I think this website offers a lot of support for all of us dealing with this type of situation.......
THANKS.....

Hey there Mishel, welcome to PTO!!!!!!!!

You will go through the emotions alot before you reach a point to where it is easier to deal with. Trust me, it gets easier with time. Maybe not easier, but as time goes by you tend to learn to cope with it. I used to cry everyday, and now I only cry after visits.
You will find lots of support and information on here.
I don't know if you know about mail yet, but it's basically our only form of communication besides visiting, because TDC only allows one phone call every 90 days if they put in a I-60 request..and when the call comes through it is only for 5 min., yes 5 minutes.
If you send paper, envelopes, it has to be sent from Office Depot, books and magazines from publisher or well known book store.
They have commissary where you send money to for his account so that he can buy things for himself.
You are allowed to visit one day each weekend for 2 hrs., and if you are married, you should get contact visits. Take $20.00 in quarters only with you and you can purchase drinks and snacks for him. If you take your son, you can take diaper and wipes and bottle in with you.
I don't know anything about the unit he is in, but these rules are pretty basic at each unit.
visiting hours are from 8-5, and they start making people leave around 4:30, so to be on the safe side, get there early.
Go to the Texas forum and maybe you can find more info on unit or someone will be along to give you more info.
Stay strong and hang in there, you will make it through this.

Congratualations on having a baby, AWWWWWWWWWWW, they are so cute at that age........
