i started a pen pal friendship with a death row inmate in sq. and it seems it takes for ever to get any mail.
so here are my questions:
how long does it usually take to receive any mail on death row.
is there are limit about what i can write or how much (pages) i can write to him. what about pictures, since he was asking to send him same. if yes how many and waht sizes can i send.
and last......... is there are chance for me, that i can get an updated picture from him.

any answer helps, thanks for your help

Ah, the mail at San Quentin. It will make even a patient person go insane!

I've had my letters take as long as 28 days to actually get into his hands from the postmark date, and as few as 9 days. I truly believe the mail arrives at the prison in a timely manner, then gets held up in the mailroom. San Quentin is such a large facility, and they probably have a limited number of staff members that handle the mail once it arrives.

My sweetie says there is no limit to the number of pages your letter can be. Not sure about the number of pictures, but they can be up to 8X10 in size. Do not send polaroids! Your pen pal can take a picture for you; he has to purchase a photo ducat for $2.00

They can also receive books of stamps on DR - I send them all the time.

Any questions, PM me.

During our call last night my guy told me that he is having to wait over 4 weeks for my mail to get to him and that it has never been this bad. So it seems that the mail is definately very behind at the moment.

I have a DR pen pal there too and the last letter he got from me he told me it took exactly 28 days. I wish there was a way to speed that process up.

As for pictures you can send up to 20 at a time... maximum size is 8x10.

I just wanted to add that the mail situation has certainly improved.
I noticed that its taking about 7-10 days for my pp to get his mail.
