View Full Version : Duluth Fed Camp, what is it like, Im gonna be doing 24-30
mwasnp 03-24-2003, 11:14 PM Does anyone know what this place is like? Im kinda scared, Im only 20 and I am going to be serving what is 10% of my life thus far in jail. I dont know what to expect. I havent pleaded yet, so I havent been sentanced, but there has been a plea agreement offered to me, which would put me at 24-30 months. Anyone with any info about this camp or jail in general if you could post here or message me on AOL, my sn is mwasnp. Thanks!
TxRenee 03-24-2003, 11:20 PM mwasnp, Welcome to PTO Sorry I have no answer for you but Good Luck!!
Fed-X 03-24-2003, 11:31 PM mwasnp,
First, welcome to the community.
I did 27 months in the feds and as bad as it seems right now looking down the barrel of the gun; it isn't as bad as you think.
There are quite a few threads here dealing with what it is like in the federal prison system, how much time you will actually do (no, you won't do all those months inside), how to act, and so on.
I don't know if any has posted yet on that specific prison but the feds are fairly even across the system unless you are talking about frills at the specific institution.
Click on the "Search" feature and put it to work here. You should dig up lots of in.. The best forums to look in for what you are looking to learn is "The Road to Prison" and "Federal System", though some others may be spread in other areas of the site.
For personal consultation after you have read up here on the site, you can PM me and I will try to answer a few things.
Best thing though would be to post the questions you cannot find the answers to via Search in this thread so others can assist as well.
Hang in there,
David
mwasnp 03-24-2003, 11:33 PM Thanks for your help so far. It was alot harder when my attorney showed me how much time I'd be doing, its hard to believe mail fraud could have such serious consequences. I will look on search and if I need anymore help I will post, thank you
harncw 03-25-2003, 01:28 AM mwasnp,
You are worrying about duluth but there is no guarrentee that that is where you will be going there if #1 you behind is not sitting there. #2 you have not even gotten notification from the BOP that that is where they will put your behind. #3 STOP WORRYING ABOUT YOUR BEHIND.
A CAMP IS WHERE THEY PUT CORRUPT POLITICIANS, POLITICAL ACTIVISTS, CORRUPT LAWYERS, COMPUTER HACKERS, EMBEZZELING ACCOUNTANTS, AND MINOR DRUG DEALERS, and soon me : ) (hmm 2nd thought I really belong in an ADX or a USP).
Do what you can/need to get the smallest sentence possible.
30m = 2.5 yrs - 135 for good time reduction = 2yrs and a month and a half.
24m= 1 yr 8m
o and then there are the halfass houses but lets not confuse the issue at this time with them. (but they can get you home faster if that is what you really need)
If you have a drug problem (if you dont you may want to develop one or pretend to have one) you can qualify for the RDAP program which can reduce your incarceration by upto a Year.
I know you are scared I was there too, you need to make your decision, and then face up to it and live by it. I report to prison may 1st... honestly I'm glad that its getting under way because the limbo that you are currently in is very uncomfortable. not knowing sucks.
Here is someones journal who did time at the ashland federal prison camp.

mwasnp 03-25-2003, 01:37 AM My attorney says thats most likely where I would go if i were to choose to go there. Well not choose but request. I am pretty sure I am going to a minimum security camp type prison, as thats what again my attorney told me. I dont see any reason not to believe this. What would make you think otherwise?
harncw 03-25-2003, 01:49 AM hmm I think you took it the wrong way, or maybe I said it the wrong way...
I dont think otherwise... I think you will be going to a camp... just maybe not duluth, you dont always get what you choose. (I in fact did not even get to choose, but I doubt this will happen in your case, but what do I know)
What I'm trying to say, dont be so worried about the camps... Reportedly it is the easiest time you could ever hope to do.
mwasnp 03-25-2003, 01:53 AM Shoot honestly if I got to choose I would go somewhere warm, I hate it here in mn, but I hear duluth is one of the better camps to be at. I dont really care to be completely honest. I just want my time to be done as soon as possible. Im a little scared, but until the first day I probably wont have answers to most of my questions anyways. Thanks for posting the helpful info. Btw, I found an article written by a guy who went to duluth, said it was easy time, little work, alot of recreation, all in all he said it was the best of 4 camps he'd been to. Just some positive info for you.
harncw 03-25-2003, 02:00 AM well maybe I'll see ya there!
Cause I got no idea where they are sticking my butt.
Well spilt some pruno, or smoke a J in the yard.
If you have the web address for the article I would like to read it.

harncw 03-25-2003, 02:15 AM hmm... I'll be the one checking you out in the shower... JUST JOKING DUDE!
Seriously I got no idea where they are putting me, I should know more b4 may1st.
Thx for the link I'll catchup with you tommorrow.

All my best wishes and good luck

mwasnp 03-25-2003, 09:26 AM Thank you
InboundTrain 04-23-2003, 11:46 AM I will most likely going to a Federal Boot Camp as well. If I find out any information i will pass it on to you and hope you will do the same for me.... InboundTrain.:D
mwasnp 04-25-2003, 01:42 PM I may actually being doing a boot camp rather than regular incarceration, as it offers a great reduction in time actually served, although I would spend a great deal of time on house arrest, which I do think is better than behind bars...it all depends on how things go, it looks like I completely qualify for it though. Thanks for all the help thusfar guys!
yanigirl 05-01-2003, 09:55 AM I don't think the fed's allow you to choose the facility. My dad did 7 years in California while all his family is on the East Coast. He had to go all that time with no visits. He only finally got to come up here when my brother got really sick with lupus they allowed him to transfer.
Seanachai 06-22-2003, 06:21 PM ~Snickers rudely~ Dont ever trust a liar I mean lawyer. My husbands liar said he would get 1 year in county lock up instead he is doing 1-7 in state. Of course he had a public pretender and not a real liar.
I don't have much info for you myself but my husband is requesting Duluth also. He will be serving 22-38 months for embezzlement and fraud. I am told by our lawyer that it is much safer then any other facility in MN. Were from St. Paul so it's going to be a drive but his safety is worth it. I wish you the best of luck and hope you are safe in your journey. Take care and God Bless.
