Rosharon, Texas-AP -- He heard the details of the night his father was dragged to death behind a pickup truck -- and says he feels no anger.
It was an unusual prison meeting between one of the men convicted in the beating and dismemberment of James Byrd Junior near Jasper, Texas, and Byrd's son, Ross.
Ross Byrd became a death penalty opponent after his father's murder. He was joined at the meeting by Martin Luther King the Third, who's also against the death penalty.
They met with Shawn Berry, one of three white men convicted in the notorious 1998 murder. Berry received a life sentence; his companions got the death penalty.
Berry apparently wanted to answer any questions the Byrd family might have about their father's death.
Ross Byrd told a reporter that Berry "seemed sincere."
But, he added, no one will ever know what happened that night except those "three men and God."
