BUTTAFLYY------I AM WORKING ON THAT RIGHT NOW, MATTER OF FACT. I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT HOW HE GETS A DEGREE. HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS THAT ARE NEEDED. I HAVEN'T GOTTEN A 2ND RESPONSE YET.
GOOD LUCK
From your email it appears that your husband is doing the "mandatory programing" required by the BOP.
First of all, if you are comfortable, please answer the following questions so I will be more able to help you.
1. I assume your husband has a high school diploma or GED. Have you had to provide proof to the FCI Educational director? If you haven't then find out how to get copies of all educational degrees (community college courses, etc.). Also, what is your educational level?
2. Do you have a General Power of Attorney to request records for your husband? He can also request records in writing but if Notary is needed, the staff counselor stamp may not be recognized.
3. When did your husband start his time? What is his security level? When is his projected release date?
4. Has your husband spoken with the Educational Director at the FCI? This is the best source of information, but as I'm sure you know, it depends on the Educational Director's opinion of higher education for inmates.
This will help me know what you and your husband have already done. If he has 8 years to go, he could potentially get a Bachelors degree.
The BOP offers free education at the associates level (2 year degree), but the teachers come to the institution and security is always an issue. If the FCI has no intention of offering this associates program, your husband can begin Administrative Remedies starting with the Educational Director and taking it to a BP9 if necessary. Of course, this can create problems for your husband if he is trying to "swim up stream" at his FCI.
We will talk more. Feel free to email me directly.
