I have been giving serious thought to applying for jobs that I can do from home on the computer. I know that while I was still with the Coast Guard, they were giving some federal civilian workers the option of either working in the office or home on the computer.

If you are in such a job or know of someone who is working in this manner, I would like to talk to them (online of course) to get some feel for this kind of situation.

I have seen some of the websites, they are constantly advertising positions for Adminstrative Assistants and Executive Assitants, but I have to admit I am a bit leary of on-line employment sites. Though I registered on Monster.com today.

I know with my history I may be geting my hopes to high. But, I have to try to get back into my field and as close to the level I was at as I can.

Patti, I know a lady who has a federal job working from her home. She does background checks for the government. I will email her and see if she will talk with you. She is handicapped due to serious migrains.

Are you still eligable to work a federal job? Being a vet would help also.

Patti,

I work where ever I am and my laptop is always with me. For my current company I worked exclusively from home for the first 18 months that I was with them... My function changed and now I must be in the office daily...

I would be wary of the online offers, but more and more companies are offering the flexibility of working from home...

I would look for the companies that employ you with an office close by but allow telecommuting...

Thank you, Fly,

I doubt if I would be eligible for a Fed job. But, I really want to do this! Thank you, Teb, I am trying in the local area as well. I really want to limit my driving as much as possible, since it looks like Linda is going to be doing most of it for me.

Patti,

Patti, I can't say too much about the millions of others but Monster.com and Hotjobs.com seem to be fairly reputable and on the up and up... good luck :)

I work at home. I am a medical transcriptionist. Most companies that hire transcriptionists have them working from their homes. I don't know if you're interested in the medical field at all, but if so, PM me, we'll talk!

Doctors dictate reports on patients and I type what they say. I type patient reports. Sorry, I should have clarified that!
