Just wondering if anyone can help? I’m going up to see my fiancé at Pelican Bay (SHU) in July this year I went in Jan and stayed at the Econo lodge. Thing is I don’t drive and I know Crescent City is small but can anyone suggest another hotel/motel that’s nearer any restaurants or anything like that? I don’t think I can eat subway for the whole 2 weeks again!!!!!

Also just reading one of the topics about money orders. I’m in the process of getting one sent thing is I’m from London, England and the banks over here don’t understand a word I’m trying to say, anyway is there a maximum amount I can send? And just double checking I write my name and address plus his name and # on the back!
Do these money orders look a bit like a cheque????
Sorry I’m new to this and don’t have a clue!!!!!!!!!

Hi Joanna, Welcome to PTO! I have a son at Pelican Bay so I am familiar with who it works. I have stayed a couple of hotels there I found them through AAA of California. I will be going up in July myself probably for the first and second weekends. I think it would be a good idea if you called the prison and asked about their shop there, I am not sure what they call it something about Friends on the inside. They will be able to help you with the hotel and let you know where they can pick you up and take you to the prison. About the money orders I get mine from the post office because it clears the fastest but a back one is fine too. Yes it looks kind of like a check as to the amount I usually send in $100. dollar increments. It may be different as to how much you can send in depending or whether or not he is in general population or in the SHU. Please let me know the dates you are going to be there, Linda Davis and I are meeting there so if you are there we can have our own little PTO get together. Linda is the mother of one of the artists I deal with. Love Barbara

I think I will be going the last 2 weekends of July. Because flights from London are so high at the beginning for some reason?
He is in SHU, the last time I went I got the hospitality bus to and from the prison.
Im going into my bank over here and I will also try our post offices, Im sure they do it its probably just called something else and when I explain what and who its for the look at me as If Im mad

Because of everything going on in Iraq not many people are flying so I have to keep checking up on availability
