Community support helped Chris survive
THE parents of Thai prisoner Christopher Egan have this week said that despite everything that has happened over the past 14 months, the one thing that has helped the family cope with this awful time in their lives, has been the unstinting support of local people.
Mr and Mrs Tony Egan said that Christopher continues to receive letters from people who read of his plight in this newspaper.
They also thanked the Clitheroe Advertiser and Times for coverage of their son's conditions in prison, which they believe highlighted his plight and increased support.
And lastly, they wanted to praise the remarkable efforts of everyone from the Foreign Office, the embassy in Bangkok and the consulate in Chiang Mai dealing with Christopher's case.
But now your support is needed more than ever, says Mr Egan.
He is urging people who knew his son to write letters to the King of Thailand pleading with him to grant Christopher a Royal Pardon.
He said: "A Royal Pardon will mean he won't be left with a criminal record and will walk free from prison."
Supporters can address their letters to: His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, King of Thailand, The Grand Palace, Na Pra Lan Road, Bangkok 10200, Thailand.
At the same time he is asking people to continue to write to Christopher to give him some comfort.
"Christopher is continuing to receive letters from friends and strangers and it means the world to him.
"It does cheer him up when he gets a letter, so they are all very much appreciated.
"In fact, one of his wellwishers from Billington delivered a Christmas tree to us on Christopher's request because he wanted to switch the lights on with his family in December, but he won't be able to do this now and the tree remains in the garden until he arrives home."
People are welcome to write to Christopher by addressing their letters to: Christopher Egan, Chiang Mai Central Prison, 142 Chotana Road, Tambon Chang Puak, Muang District, 50300, Chiang Mai, Thailand.
