There's a possiblity my husband may be released from prison soon, after a long time inside. I'm working on trying to get the documents he will need in order to get a driver's license or state I.D. I have his birth certificate and am trying to get a replacement social security card but am running into problems with obtaining some sort of "current" document that shows that his name and date of birth. She said something within the past couple of months! The lady suggested his "prison I.D." but he can't send me that - he needs it. Do they give federal prisoners some sort of I.D. when they leave prison that they can use to get more I.D.?? If not, any ideas from anyone? Zelda

Actually, Zelda, they let me keep my prison I.D. for that purpose.

At the prisons I was at, they assisted you in obtaining a new Social Security card.

When my husband was in prison custody in Colorado they took him to get a state I.D. shortly before his release date. I'm not sure how that would apply to federal, though. This was several years ago, before we met. I just know the story because the guards took him into a gas station to use the restroom while out getting his state I.D. and for the first time in two years he walked past someone who had just finished smoking a cigarette. My husband is a life-long smoker, but he said the smell of one after being away from it for so long made him REALLY sick. He said he couldn't believe we smell like that when we smoke. He vowed not to start smoking again after he got out. That lasted about two hours of traveling in a car with his mom and sister both smoking before he gave in! (Sorry that all got off-topic!)

Anyway, congratulations! I hope everything goes smoothly and your husband will be back home in your arms in no time at all!
