Life is strange enough. Then it seems to always rear its (sometimes ugly) head up at you and give you reason to pause and reflect. I haven't been on this board in quite awhile, almost two years if memory serves me correctly.

I don't think about prison much anymore. At least not in that sense that one does when you first get out. It's more this distant thing, and very much disconnected or detached if you will. It is almost as if I can wonder if it really ever did happen to me or not (though I know full and well it did).

It may be that that is a blessing of sorts. To get to that point where a bad event in one's life matters no more, irrelevancy in post-mortum.

It is hard to truly imagine what USP Leavenworth and USP Lompoc must be like these days. Although I should think that they have changed very little. There are probably still people in there I know or are acquainted with all too well.

I still talk to friends inside and those who have made it out. Everything is too fresh in their minds, they haven't reach that point of disconnect yet. It is an easy, yet sometimes hard thing to do when you unplug yourself from the machinery of crime, drugs, prison, etc.

I played live music at a party recently here in Durango (yes, I moved). I still smoke cigarettes, but was politely informed that only pot could be smoked inside, tobacco outdoors. I remember playing a song, and smelling the awful smell of pot. Now mind you, I was a terror when it came to smoking dope many years ago. So as I got queasy from the smell, I started watching the stoners. Stoners are a trip, but the point of it was it absolutely reminded me of the prisoner mentality, convict mentality. Why? I cannot really say except that I guess there are certain behavioral traits that are on the same common thread. Broke, poor, underpaid, no ambition, thinking the world owes them something, drifter-mentality, under-educated, and on and on. These were all ski instructors and lift-operators.

More later....

Peace y'all
