Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if someone..anyone could give me some info on trying to obtain a 24 hour pass or something like that for an inmate with a family emergency??
My brother Thomas is currently in Elmore CF and today I found out our Grandmother has lung cancer that is very bad and she doesnt have long. :( I know Thomas would like to at least be able to say goodbye to her.
He is in jail for DUI...he is a non violent offender with half his time served and no disciplinarys or citations. Does anyone know if a 24 hr leave can be granted and if so...who I may need to contact to try to arrange this?? I am so lost and have no idea where to start...I was thinking the prison chaplain would be a good start. (??)
If anyone has any advice or knows anything at all about this....PLEASE let me know.
Thanks so much
God Bless You All

I have no experience with this type of thing.. sorry.. Just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about your situation and I hope you can get him a pass.. I would definitely contact the chaplain first, he will probably be able to point you in the right direction..

Thanks for replying cember :)
I was lost...still am.
Anyways..the chaplain said that Thomas could either see Grandmother now or at the funeral when the time comes...but that he couldnt do both.
I am thankful that he will at least be able to come..{he chose to wait til the time comes.}
We have to pay for the CO's time and milage in the state van...he wont have to come to far tho..so it wont cost too much. Thank goodness.
Anyways...thanks for replying.
Have a nice day

I don't know if this will help , because it mainly relates to Australia , but I would not think it would be to much different over there.
In Aus , a prisoner may apply for emergency leave at any time during their sentence to attend a funeral or alike. The department looks very closely at the
"Long standing relationship" between the prisoner and the person who has passed away or is in bad health , they will also look at the prisoners sentence , crime and any other mitigating circumstances.
On the whole at least down here , prisoners are allowed to go, if they have meet the criteria and the department does not think that it will cause to much public uproar, and the security of the prisoner can be maintained.
The only thing one must consider is "Long Standing Relationship"
ie: documented evidence that their relationship, which has been ongoing and in some cases leave have been refused, where in the departments eyes this has not been established or the relative has only been a distant relative.
