SURAT THANI:A convict was injured in an attempt to escape from the provincial prison yesterday.

Prison chief Preeda Nilsiri said the incident took place about 11am when Thirawut Chuchamnan, who is being detained pending an Appeals Court decision on theft charges, went up to the roof of a workshop building. While Thirawut was trying to scale an inner wall he happened to touch a live electric wire and fell 5m down to a barbed wire fence below. Thirawut was seriously wounded in the forehead and right leg and sent to the provincial hospital for treatment.
