International Convention on Preventing Wrongful Convictions...

Anyone wanna carpool to Winnipeg in October,2005 from BC?! :D I'm trying to get a group together to share expenses for accomodations, etc.

All the big wigs are gonna be there discussing the state of affairs...
From their website, http://www.wrongfulconviction.ca (http://www.wrongfulconviction.ca/):
"An international conference, Unlocking Innocence: Avoiding Wrongful Conviction will explore the problem and search for solutions on October 20 , 21 and 22 , 2005 at the Fairmont Hotel in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The conference brings together judges, defence lawyers, prosecutors, law enforcement personnel, legislators, journalists, the victims of wrongful convictions and others to examine the issues and search for remedies..."

Key note speakers and panelists will include many pivotal people, some being:
Federal Justice Minister Irwin Cotler
Director of AIDWYC, lawyer James Lockyer
Exonerated inmate, Guy Paul Morin
Mother of Exonerated inmate, Joyce Milgaard
as well as public inquiry commissioners
and Provincial Attorney GeneralsRecent post-secondary grads and current f/t students can apply for a halfprice registration bursary... I am - please, cross your fingers.

I am also asking them for advance permission to VIDEO record ...!! It will make awesome blog material... I will be travelling from Chilliwack BC to Winnipeg, (transportation still to be determined), and hope to share a room at the Fairmont itself, or the closest cheaper alternative...

I'm also gonna wear bright card saying 'FreeDarren', of course! It promises to be a unparalleled opportunity for networking, research, and exposure... I hope I can raise the funds, and a posse, to go with me...?

~~~
So, what do you guys think about this conference anyways? Is it gonna be a lot of lip-service and nothing else? We must ensure there is representation from the common people there, not just a political circle-jerk full of photo-ops and rhetoric. Let's get a big, noisy group of voters together..!
Actually, it's in Winnipeg, Manitoba...
If you're in Ontario, and I'm in BC,
that makes it about halfway between us...?
Wanna meet me there?
;)
