Just was wondering how long everyone has to wait until the return of their loved ones, or had to wait..

Hi Kelly. I have to wait 1-3 years. He goes before the Board next week but we were told to expect a hit because of their policy to deny parole at their first Boards. Very sad news for us, but we will keep praying.

My one year anniversary of Wayne's being locked-up is coming up in December. His parole was revoked with a 3 year set-off.

Darn.... I voted 1-3 years, but I guess all in all it may end up being a little bit more than that.....
I of course met him when he was already locked up.... our 1 year anniversary was just on Oct 16th... and his current outdate is 6/1/05..... so we have a lil' over two and a half years to go....
BUT of course we hope and prayer for restoration of good time to bring him home a bit sooner!! :)

Hi All, my b/f has 2 years, began in March, so i am not real sure if he will be out any sooner, the parole board said if he was sentenced under the new law, he will serve the whole two years, not sure what the new law says, thought it depends on the charges. any opionions on that. pleeese let me know, the wait is hard, Merilee

Butch's (my son) max out date is Jan 2013. He has served 12 years at this point since 1990. He has 11 more years to go. I can only hope that something happens that will allow him release earlier or I may not be here in 11 years. I would be 71 at that time.

My husband has 25 to life under California's Three Strike Law. He's been in for six. With recent overturns on 3 strike sentences and a huge tax burden to house non-violent, non-serious 3rd strikers, I believe he will be home very soon. I pray for his freedom and I know my God listens to and answers prayer! We are believing for a 2004 homecoming! That will truely be Independence Day!!

This was a great place to post my 500th post!!

Shawn is serving a life sentence, but he is eligible for parole in January 2012. I am aware that most felons in Kansas are routinely denied at their first parole hearing, but am still trying to stay hopeful that he makes the next "go-round".

I have some friends that think I'm nuts for waiting...and others who have held my hand and told me "10 years will go by before you know it."

Time stretching before the two of us is rough, but seeing as how "patience" has never been one of MY virtues (LOL), I choose to see this as a lesson from my Higher Power.

Well on paper his good time release date is 12/24/04. Right now he is scheduled for 14 weeks of Halfway house time (which would put him out in September of 04) But we are attempting the 2255 route and hope that he will get a sentence reduction to time served. Prayers are needed please. Thanks and hopefully we all will have shorter waits for our loved ones to come home

My husband was sentenced to 6 to 15 years. We are in appeals and he was already home for over a year and then the Supreme Court reversed the Court of Appeals decision and he went back in April 11th of this year. We are now at the Federal District Court level on a habeous corpus and were accepted there and waiting on the judge (after our damn Attorney General does her paper work--she asked for an extension and the judge has not made a decision on that yet). Our attorney tells us we will win and he should be home between December and next spring sometime depending on all of the above. He'll be home on bond as we await the outcome and may have to go back again if someone rules against us again. In such case, we appeal again. The time he was out did not count towards the time he was sentenced. So, I'm unsure....... He first went in September 13th of 1998 (Friday the 13th).

Yes, our guys' sentences are similar.....

.......and there are days when the time before us seems unbearable. But I think that an unwillingness to commit, as well as an overall need for immediate gratification, is a large part of society's problem these days. Everyone wants their way "now"...no one is willing to have faith, or be inconvenienced, or be alone for any length of time. This is what tells me how special the people here really are, to stand by their loved ones on the inside, despite the harshest of circumstances.

Look back over any ten year period of your life...and in retrospect, you will see just how quickly time flies by. My daughter is almost 14 now, and it feels like such a blur, the past ten years....it really does seem like "just yesterday" that she was a bouncy little toddler, running through the house and still having "nap time"...LOL!

So, while living in the "day to day" of separation, it's easy (and normal, I think) to find yourself feeling down at the prospect of so many days and nights without the one you care about....But I have faith that our love will stand tall against the struggle, and we will, in Shawn's words, "Be the better people for it..." I also believe that our separation gives us a chance to explore ourselves and each other in ways that most "free" relationships overlook.

I have shared more with this man, through only letters and calls, than I did with either of my husbands. When Shawn and I talk on the phone, we are really "listening", as opposed to just "hearing"....and our letters give us tremendous insight into each others' feelings and beliefs.

Well when I met my future husband behind bars I didn't know what he was there for or how long he had to serve. All I had to do was ask him, but I didn't.Later I did find out that he wouldn't be out until 20?? And boy was that a shock. But we're trying to make the best out of each day as it came.
as some of you already know from reading my introduction story,my husband was killed while being transferred back in 1994,so maybe now 2002 he would be officially released.

Autumn
11-16-2002, 09:31 PM
what is so frustrating to me is indeterminate sentencing! I could deal with the 10 years, I would have a date to count down to, despite it being a long way away- but it's 10 years until 'possible' parole, maybe never- it's the not knowing- I swing between wanting to maintain hope and trying to prepare myself for the worst-

I will say though that our communication is much deeper and more intimate now than it ever was when he was out- whether that's due to the fact that we're both a lot older now, or just the harshness of the situation, I don't know- I had access to his body when he was on the outside (and yes, that was very nice!) but I have access to his heart and soul now, and that is of infinite value!

Thanks, Autumn....glad you like that quote.

In college, I majored in Foreign Studies....And even though I didn't finish my degree (still hoping to return in the near future), I try to continue the learning process on a daily basis through reading, and language study (and travel, when I have the $$$). My main interests lately have been the indigenous Mayan people of the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico), the Moorish influences on Spain and Portugal, and various Arabic societies. I enjoy discovering the history of different cultures, and would love nothing more than to wander the globe, preserving the beauty of parts unknown through photography.

It's a fascinating world out there :D

My biggest disappointment is that Shawn, as a convicted felon, will not be able to travel to Mexico with me. I consider it my home away from home...and he and I have spoken often about spending time there (he has never been anywhere but Kansas and Missouri). However, I have since found that there are laws preventing felons from travel outside the U.S....so we will have to make other plans.

The attached picture (one of my favorites) is of a Mayan woman named Maria, who is a tribal elder in her circle. I met her last year, while photographing the villages surrounding the ruins at Coba...She was friendly, warm, and a most gracious hostess. I promised to visit her again someday :)

What a great photo! I studied the artwork of a lot of different cultures when I got my B.A. (Art w. a minor in Art History). Mesoamerican works and traditions are fascinating! I've also been learning about Arabic and Middle Eastern cultures since I've been performing Middle Eastern dance (belly dance!) for several years.

Have you ever been to Tulum? There are still various frescoes visible inside the temples there, dating back as far as 900 A.D. It takes your breath away to be able to see the magnificent Mayan history at such close range.

My house is crammed with all kinds of art, handmade crafts, and pottery from many trips to Mexico over the years. My love for the area is such a part of me, that I think it's only natural to want to share that with my man.....it just makes me so sad that he will probably never be able to experience such beauty through his own eyes.

Lets see...."we" are serving a 15 year federal mandatory sentence...so with good time..that would be 12 3/4 years.
However we did lose some good time so far!

As of now..his projected release date is March 6, 2012....and if that is the day....I will be here waiting and loving him! Until we can be together again! I see it no other way! If only I could change one thing at this point...It would be to get him out of USP Beaumont! And bring him closer to home!(ofcourse I'd rather him be home)

Good poll!

Autumn

You'd be surprised how inexpensive it is to stay in Mexico, Autumn...provided you stay at a smaller hotel along the coast, and not one of the huge resorts.

That last pic was taken in a bird sanctuary outside the city of Playa....what a wonderful place to spend a day! My daughter especially loved being able to sit and hold a toucan, and hand feeding a family of flamingoes.

I will post more pics in the gallery.

Just was wondering how long everyone has to wait until the return of their loved ones, or had to wait..

Kelly
Golly,...I wish I knew how long? I met and married my husband in a prison chapel back in 1984...he was twenty years old when he went to prison...he's now 45 yrs old....so, he's been incarcerated for going on 25 yrs now...I have served 20 of those years with him. Over half his life has been spent in prison! He was given a life with parole sentence...and first time up for parole was at ten years. We have been thru eight or nine parole hearings ( I loose count now!) ,,,and he has been denied parole each time tho he is a first time offender and has an excellent prison record in all these years. I am still trusting God along with him that one day he'll get his chance at freedom again and will be able to come home to me!!! I long for that day and struggle to maintain my hope and faith daily as I wait. We need a miracle from God to override the "political grandstanding" in his case! The prayers and support of this PTO family will be very much appreciated as I am a brand new member to this site and until now have had take this awful "journey" alone. Thank you!

I waited 15 years for the just us system to realize that 1) The prosecutor commited professional misconduct by withholding exculpatory evidence, 2) The trial Judge abused his discrection in making an important ruling realted to other exculpatory evidence (in not allowing it into evidence) 3) Trial counsel was ineffective, 4) Appellate counsel was just as inept, when in fact I was telling them this from the first day. But they finally listened after serving 15 of my 27 1/2 to Life sentence.

we got 15-Life, my husbands been locked up for 10 years, 3 months, 18 days and about 14 hours. yeah, we were 16 at the time. Time has proven to be a wierd thing, in the end it flys by in the slowest way, I can't believe we're going on thirty now! I'd like to tell everyone dealing with time, if it's a day or if it's straight Life W/O, take each moment for what it is, a moment, good with the bad, a moment on the phone together, letters, visits; cherish them as I'm sure we all do, and the moments alone are just that, moments, and I like to remember that each day has an end. Not everyone finds REAL LOVE so hold on to it, and remember in the end we are lucky and blessed, corny but true.
