THIS STORY IS VERY UPSETTING. ALTHOUGH I AM CERTAIN THERE HAVE BEEN TIMES WHEN INMATES "FAKE" MENTAL ILLNESS THIS CERTAINLY DOES NOT SEEM TO BE THE CASE WITH MR. KEMP. IF HE IS PARANOID SCHIZOPHRENIC, IT IS VERY PROBABLE THAT HE WAS DELUSIONAL THE NIGHT HE COMMITTED THE RAPE/MURDERS.

THE ISSUES BROUGHT UT IN THIS STORY ARE SERIOUS ONES-I THINK IT IS ENTIRELY UNETHICAL TO MEDICATE SOMEONE SO THAT THEY CAN BE DEEMED "COMPETENT" TO BE EXECUTED. THAT IS INSANE. IF THEY ARE NOT COMPETENT FOR EXECUTION, THEN HOW COULD THEY BE DEEMED COMPETENT WHEN THEY COMMITTED THE CRIME?

THIS STORY BRINGS UP A LOT OF VERY IMPORTANT ISSUES IN MENTAL HEALTH AND CORRECTIONS. I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO READ IT.

I think, if a prisoner tries to fake mentally illness, he'll get caught one day....but this seems not be the case for this man. it's a very good story to read and think about

Sherry, I agree that it is wrong to medicate someone just so that they are deemed well enough to stand trial and possibly get the death penalty. My thoughts are that medication is supposed to make you better, so the state wants to get the accused better for what?
