View Full Version : Son Transferred to CCC Susanville, Happy & Sad
Matts_Dad 04-14-2005, 01:57 PM He told us that he would be transferred soon. So before going up to NKSP this weekend we decided to call. Sure enough he has been transferred to CCC Susanville. So we are happy that he is out of reception and off to fire training, but sad that we will now see him less because he is so far away. To get there I'm thinking plane ride to Sacramento and then rental car from Sac. to Susanville.
Anyone know if he will be in a "reception" state for a while at CCC. Or will he have mainline privileges from the start. We don't want to make the trip until he can have same room visits.
RPinSD 04-14-2005, 02:52 PM Hi Matts Dad
Any change after the reception hell is a breath of fresh air. He has to go through his final classification hearing there and is on what's called "Orientation Status".
They get them settled in pretty quick 5-10 days, at the hearing, they make sure he belongs on that level, has no known enemies there and that he has no gang affiliations. When that's done they recommend what yard he will be moved to inside the prison. At that point he will have all his phone, visiting, package privliges available.

Matts_Dad 04-14-2005, 04:49 PM Thanks Richard, I really appreciate the info. He actually didn't have the bad time that I keep hearing most have in reception and we had very good experiances with the staff at NKSP. All the COs were friendly and helpful. Maybe we/he got lucky and NKSP is one of the better places.
It has been almost a year since we have had physical contact with him so it will be really great to give our boy a hug again. Mom is really getting excited.

1dayatatime 04-14-2005, 04:55 PM I hope you get to visit him soon and all goes well.

KeviesMom 04-14-2005, 06:47 PM I am so excited for you. It won't be long before you do get to hug him. My son was in county jail for 8 months, San Quentin Reception for 3 months, and now at Folsom. It is so wonderful to get to hug and kiss your "baby". It had been almost a year. It was 10 days before I could see him once he got to Folsom.
Good Luck. The waiting is almost over for that first contact visit.

My son was suppossed to call today at 3, he didn't, I'm thinking lockdown..I haven't been to visit yet because of the distance, I'm in Moreno Valley.. He will see a counselor there, the same as before. There's also something about late yard and early yard so that is when they call, one day early, next day late, etc. My son said the trip from NKSP is one heck of a trip, 14 hours, but he said it is beautiful country.

LisaL 04-19-2005, 08:15 AM When I had thought that my son was going to go to Susanville, I had looked into how to go visit him. It looked like it actually was closer to fly into Reno and rent a car and drive from there. You might want to look into that. Good Luck!

I looked into Reno because it is closer (Sacramento is twice the distance). But it would cost about $100.00 more for the both of us to fly through Reno vs. Sac. I can get my corporate rate for a rental car which includes unlimited mileage so the car cost will be the same (other than gas). We decided that driving the extra 1.5 hours was worth the $100.00 savings. Also if we are in Reno, we are gambling ;) , so the savings turns out to be even more :D !
I'm more worried about making plans and then having them go on lockdown  , that would suck!
elainewang 04-19-2005, 09:19 AM My daughter received the letter from my son in law that he was been transferred from Chino to Susanville on last Wednesday. He told us that he is at Building C. As you, we are looking to go to see him when it is possible. I beleived the best way is fly to Reno and rent a car to go there. We think we have to fly on Friday and be there on Friday night stay in the hotel near Susanville and spend Saturday and Sunday on visit then come back on Sunday nigh. Do you any one know it have any hotel near Susanville ?
c's baby 04-19-2005, 11:20 AM When I went to Susanville, (I lived south of Sacto. at that time) the fastest and easiest way to get there is take I-80 up to Reno and then the 395 north back into California. It is an easier and shorter drive than staying in California. Susanville is about 30 miles north of Reno. Not sure on the over night accomodations in Susanville. We stayed in Reno because it was cheap (especially at the casinos). Reno is about 2.5 hours +/- from Sacramento
then about 45 minutes to Susanville. The road to Susanville is two lanes. You don't make good time. Especially if there is road construction. However, once you get back into California, the scenery is fantastic. The I-80 is 4 - 6 lanes all the way from Sac to Reno . . . . great drive time. Hope this helps. P.S. the suggestion on flying to Reno . . I think is your best bet, especially from So. CA. Southwest I believe flys in there. Book like 21 days in advance you get good rates!
elainewang 04-20-2005, 12:06 AM Thanks for sharing . We live in Los Angeles. The good thing is if we can ask for my son in law transfer back to near Los Angeles or Lancaster ? do anyone do that before ?It is be approved??
c's baby 05-01-2005, 10:00 PM good luck with trying the transfer. i have heard sometime on a medical. and/or lifer's could be sent (closier) to family. my husband spent over 2 years at Pelican Bay. that is over 800 miles from the OC. You, know, anything is possible in the CDC system! ;) best of luck
Matts_Dad 05-02-2005, 11:05 AM Sorry for taking so long to get back. I had an emergency appendectomy and had some complications. So I spent some time in the hospital, but I'm feeling good now and back on my feet.
While I was incapacitated Paula made plans to go up to visit Matt in late May. We fly Southwest to Sacramento on Friday night, rent a car, and drive to Susanville. We are staying at a Best Western in or near Susanville. We are flying home Sunday evening.
She said that she found the hotels in the AAA travel guide. The AAA web site lists them also. We decided to fly to Sac because it was $30.00 more per person each way ($120.00 total) to fly into Reno. With unlimited miles on a rental it was worth the extra 2.5 hour drive to save $120.
