TORONTO - Karla Homolka will not be charged with killing her sister when she is released from prison this summer, Ontario's attorney general said Tuesday.

"I'm not going to go back and second-guess the decision," said Michael Bryant.

"An attorney general of the day made a decision based upon a public inquiry that was before him, and that's that."

Homolka acknowledged helping drug her 15-year-old sister Tammy in 1990 so that her husband, Paul Bernardo, could sexually assault the girl.

Tammy died as a result of the drugs she was given, but Karla was never charged in her death. Her 12-year manslaughter sentence for her role in the sex slayings of schoolgirls Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy took the death into account.

Homolka will be released from a Quebec prison on July 5.

Bernardo is serving a life sentence for those killings. Homolka pleaded guilty to the lesser charge in return for her testimony against him, a deal that has been widely criticized.

With Homolka's release from prison fast approaching, Bryant said Monday that he would seek to have tight conditions imposed on her by judges in every province once she regains her freedom.
