My son has been in Lansing for about 5 months now.
In our last conversation he said there had been a very brutal assault on an inmate by several other inmates. The victim had to be taken out by "flight for life" and may not survive.
Has anyone heard any other news about this?
How was this allowed to happen? I thought the guards were "right on it" when ever they see a group forming.
From what I was told this was a sexual assault aswell.
This is very frightening.

As far as I understand, it happened last Sunday (a little over a week ago). I have no idea on his current condition, but I do hope that he'll be okay. It's a shame that one can't even be safe in prison, especially to such brutal attacks. Normal fighting is to be expected, but NOTHING of this level.

Many of the inmates in the Lansing-Leavenworth facilities are serving hard time/long sentences. Most probably feel they have nothing to lose when they commit these acts, as many are going to spend the rest of their lives there anyway. If the guys responsible for this particular incident DID have a chance for parole, I'm sure those chances are a little more slim now.

I do wish the very best for this kid and his family. At any time, we could be in their shoes... one of the sad realities to loving someone in the DOC. All we can do is keep them in our prayers.

I haven't heard from my son this week, he usually calls every other week. So I hope some of you ladies who are visiting this weekend can give me an update.
I'm in Colorado and only got approved just last week for visits. I hope to make the trip soon. Thank god my daughter is a flight attendent and I can fly to K.C. for free.
Maybe some of you might want to get together for dinner after visiting some weekend?!
Or at least direct me to a decent place! (I get the feeling Lansing isn't a thriving metropolis!)
We will play it by ear and see what happens.

Just got off the phone with my son.
Wanted to let you know the only thing I found out was it happened in Medium. My boy has not heard anything new.
But I'm sure they aren't sending out any press releases on this one.
Hope that eases a few of your minds. I know it helped knowing it was across the street from my boy, who's in minimum.:thumbsup:

Thats good to hear my friend in in Max but his buddy was in Med.........but I heard was moved to El Dorado, I hope they are all okay.
I agree we need to get together, I am an hour 45 minutes from Lansing..........Let us know.

My sweetie is in Min @ Lansing also, I go see him every weekend,
its about a half hour drive from KC, there is not much in Lansing
however Levenworth is a bit bigger and right there by it. If you
need any info about visiting @ Lansing or things around KC
