Welcome to PTO, check the federal forum, hon. Your family will be fine, they will just have to adjust a little. But they can come see you, which is great. GOOD LUCK

I am going in for bankfraud 146,000, which I really had the $$$. But anyways, looks bad for me. I have a wonderful husband of 23 years and 2 beautiful daughers. I just turned 40. Both girls are in college. They are taking this extremely hard, We are best friends. My husband has not been able to sleep since my sentencing verdict. 12 months and 1 day. The judge did ask for carswell. I don't know anything about federal prison. Any info will help. Thanks, Julie:)

With a wonderful hiusband and the support of your daughters I am sure you will make it fine. I am sorry this is happening to you...but as you said you did commit the crime.
There is plenty on federal prisons here ...try the search on the top left.
And good luck. I hoep the incarceration goes quickly and as well as possible.

Julie,

Welcome to PTO. I'm in a similar situation. My kids are all in college too (one graduates this month). They have been very supportive. My wife doesn't sleep very well either. However, you will get past this one day at a time. You will have good days and bad days. Just keep looking to the future. Take Care.

HI

First, you will serve around 10 months. Second, fear is not an option. And third, you will probably be in a camp that will feel a bit like a university campus. You will meet women that can relate to you and vice versa. It will be OK, I promise you. Follow the rules, don't gossip, read, write and exercise. You will gain from this experience in a big way. Best wishes and smooth transitions to you. Peace

Jewel,

It is indeed fortunate that you got the 1 year and 1 day. Federal system states that anyone doing OVER 1 year is eligible for 54 days a year (good time) to be talken off their sentence. this means you serve about 85 % of your sentence. You may also take another 10 % off for time in a 1/2 way house. You should basically be inside for about 9 months. Although you are technically considered in BOP custody while at the 1/2 way house. In a nut shell... about 10 months with one of those months at a 1/2 way house. After you report, BOP will update and should give a projected release date. Have your family check.

Jewel-

Welcome to PTO. Now, step back, take a deep breath, and relax. You will be fine. Outside of the separation from your family, you have little to fear. Prison is not like what you see on TV, read in books, magazines, etc... Not where you're going anyways. Look at Martha Stewart, she seemed to have faired really well, in fact, first impressions are that it has made her a better person. I'm not saying that one has to go to prison to be a better person, I'm just saying that it will not be as bad as what is racing through your mind right now.

To answer one of your questions:

On a sentence of 12 months and 1 day, the numbers are as follows:

You will serve a total of 10 months and 13 days in the actual custody of the BOP.
You will be eligible for a total of 47 days of good conduct time.
You will be eligible for a total of 31 days for halfway house.

For example, if your sentence began today (4/15/05) you would be released from custody on Feb 27, 2006. You would be eligible to go to a halfway house one month before that date (1/26/06).

Does that help any?

I know that this is a scary time - - hang in there. Have Faith! You will do fine. One way to look at this is that most of the people that you'll be serving time with will be people JUST LIKE YOU. They had the same fears that you now have. Use this time to put some order in your life. You can go in and come out stronger! Stronger mentally, physically, and spiritually. I see it happen all the time. I've seen cases where prison has saved the person's life. I do not mean to imply that you have problems, etc... In fact you could very well be a very very strong person now, but...... you can be stronger! We all can.

Just go in, do your time. Use the time to your advantage and before you know it, you'll be back home with your husband and daughters.

I wish you the best

Greyghost,

You must be a former BOP employee, in fact you seem to know much more than the BOP people I dealt with when I was in there. If not BOP something federal law enforcement oriented. I've followed your posts for awhile, I must say that on behalf of the people with federal problems in here, I thank you. You've helped alot of people including myself. Keep it Up!:D
