I'm not sure if any of you were able to catch a glimpse of the Oprah show on Thursday where she had Lisa Ling on? Anyhow it showed film inside a CA state prison. In particular they showed a white male who they said was drunk and was placed basically in like a "time out" cage.
Well.....just found out that they will be installing some of those cages at CMC (East Facility)!!!!

Didn't see the show but we have 1 man holding cages on every yard. At least in all the prisons I have worked.

I have no idea girl. Bobby called me this morning and told me. Then he must have said, "I can see it now. When you get mad at me your ass is going to be calling the Sgt. and asking him......Can you please put Bobby in the cage for an hour, because he's acting up!" LOL The Sgt. on his quad is that nice older man that use to be the Sgt. of the visiting gatehouse. Remember he was the one that would give us the stamp on our wrist before we went inside? He was so nice and I'm glad he's the Sgt. on Bobby's quad....he's very fair!
Anyhow....I really don't know why they are adding these cages there. Just another form of discipline I guess. Just like Oprah said, "If you lock these me up in cages like you would an animal, they're going to act like animals!

The cages are used to separate inmates after fights until we can find out what was going on, to hold agitated or drunk/high inmates til they calm down/sober up, or to put a problem inmate until we have time to deal with him.
An example of the last one would be during chow. In the course of 1-2 hours all inmates on the yard (on my yard that is 1150) are released to go to chow by building. If an inmate acts up we don't have the time or the manpower to deal with him right then. So we place him in a holding cage until after chow is over and we can deal with problem.
