When you make it to halfway house, is there a limit how far you can travel for a job? Is an hour and half too far? Also, can they work for a family member that has a business?

My husband had an hour drive...he could leave at 6 am and had to be back by 6 pm. I don't think it matters if they work for a family member as long as it's gainful legal employment where they draw a paycheck.

In the halfway house I was in, you were not allowed to work for a family business. Of course, that could change once you were on supervised release.

I am currently at S.F., we are allowed up to 100 miles. If you are further away and on track for home confinement then after a month employment you can look for a job in your home area.

In Colorado you can not be self employed, employed by family or paid with cash. You can work up to 18 hours a day so alot of them work a full and part time job. Rent is $17.00 a day

Is that federal? As a standard, BOP halfway houses charge 25% of your gross wages and you ARE NOT allowed to be gone more than 12 hours per day.

As to the job question. I know one inmate who is self-employed and his company was allowed to rent an office in the same city as his halfway house so that he can work. His actual office was several hours away.
