View Full Version : Airplanes...what can/can't you carry on now?
CelliePieGrrl 04-07-2005, 12:34 AM Just wondering because I will be flying Friday morning and need to know with the new rules and all after 9/11 what I can and can't take on the plane anymore? First of all, I need my tweezers for sure, I can't go a day without messing with eyebrows, lol. :p So I know for sure I can't carry them on the plane, but can they be in the baggage that I check? As far as cameras, what is the procedure with those? I don't want my film ruined if they do anything weird to them now. My Dad went on a cruise last year and when he returned home they had fogged the film with whatever they did to it and it ruined his pix  so I don't want that happening to mine. And...anything else I need to know? Can I still carry on like my purse and one bag? I haven't flown in years, since I was a kid, so any help on this is appreciated. :) Thanks!
MrsBenji 04-07-2005, 12:38 AM The easiest way is to go to the website of the airport you are flying out of. They should have a link to the lists of what you can and can not. I few lots for a while and feel like an old pro. lol.
Tweezers in your checked bag should be fine. I never had any problem with tweezers in my carry on though.
The film, keep it in your carry on and take it out when you go through security. That will keep it from getting ruined.
Good luck! Have a great trip!

CelliePieGrrl 04-07-2005, 12:48 AM Jenn,
Cool thanks so much! :) I took your advice and searched for the webpage for the airport I am going to and it told me a basic overview, so it did help. I was going to ask about cell phones in my first post but I forgot, but the site said I could take my cell on board. Anyway thanks again!!

I've had to put tweezers, finger nail clippers and anything sharp in my check on as I had a problem with tweezers and they made me throw mine away a couple years ago when they were in my carry on.... I hate flying anymore and I have to alot....

CelliePieGrrl 04-07-2005, 11:48 AM Deb, thanks so much. :) See, I was wondering about the tweezers, because I don't want mine thrown away! I'll be searching New Orleans for a new pair, lol.
Oh and does anyone know, like what size constitutes carry-on luggage? I want to carry on at least one bag, but I don't know what the size limits are or whatever. I'm going to put my most important things in that bag, because even though it's never happened to *me* I am paranoid about them losing my luggage. lol
Ravenslove 04-07-2005, 02:02 PM the website will have the exact measurements but it's usually about 22" give or take a couple. if it's squishy you can get away with bigger. can't weigh more then 40 lbs.
asweetangel99 04-07-2005, 02:05 PM i would also recommend buying a film bag (its lead) to ensure that the film isnt exposed, if you are checking the film in your luggage... you can get them at any camera shop and prolly wal marts photo section... i have seen security give ppl a hard time about those disposible cameras (in milwaukee and in bostons airports)...
JustLisa 04-07-2005, 02:17 PM Yeah, to be on the safe side put your tweezers in your checked baggage.. They took mine from me.. even took a nail file, one of those long metal type ones. You can have your cell phone with you and they tell you when you have to turn it off.. pretty much anytime the plane is moving you have to have it off....
I usually take a backpack and put my purse in that and use that as my carry-on.. But then I travel with my two kids and they each take a backpack too so we get alot of stuff on board...
Where are you flying to??? I always hate flying but have done it alot since I live in Washington and allllll my family lives in West Virginia...
CelliePieGrrl 04-07-2005, 03:03 PM Thanks girls for all the info, it helps a lot!! :)
Lisa, I am flying to New Orleans for the weekend! :) I am so super excited, can't wait!
Wingy 04-07-2005, 03:04 PM as of april 5th no more cigarette lighters
MrsBenji 04-07-2005, 05:21 PM The backpack is a good size to carry on. And usually, you don't have to consider your backpack and your purse as two items. Different airlines have different sizes for carry on bags as well. They have different sized overhead and understead compartments, I guess. A smaller duffle bag works well too.
No aerosol cans either. Like deodorant or static guard. Carry on or in checked luggage.
Good luck!
