View Full Version : Alabama Must Read! July Incentive Packages DeniseJ 04-06-2005, 08:56 AM http://www.doc.state.al.us/ ABOUT 1/2 WAY DOWN.... danielle 04-06-2005, 12:44 PM So, ACS is now doing the incentive packages? Wow! When did that happen? Anybody ever dealt with American Commissary Supply or have any information on them? Sel 04-06-2005, 01:07 PM Stupid computer! :blah: I can't get it to come up...grrrr. It's not the link or anything...it's just well, it all comes up in "codes" on my Microsoft Word...I give up. LOL DeniseJ 04-06-2005, 02:14 PM its a adobe file selena.... Care9 04-07-2005, 06:48 AM I have experience using this and although I would rather have the privilege of putting the box together myself, I admit that it simplified it for me. I didn't have to wonder if it was an ounce too heavy and have the whole thing returned because of that, or wonder if everything I THOUGHT would be approved would somehow not pass a crabby co's approval. I know many grumble over this but for me, it make it easier. They used to be able to get so much more things in an incentive package but ever since they started putting more and more restrictions on what they could have anyhow, I guess they just thought this would make their jobs easier too. It's just another one of those Accept It things because I can hate it all I want but it's not going to make anybody except me miserable and the system already does that enough as it is, lol. danielle 04-07-2005, 07:02 AM Wayne and I were discussing this last night. Here's the questions we have: 1. Is the ADOC making money off of this company? 2. What items are on the list that they can't get from the commissary? 3. Are they more expensive than the commissary, the same price, or cheaper? I guess what I'm wondering is if it would be easier/cheaper to send the money to the prisoner and let him/her get what they need off the commissary or to send the money to this company? I mean, unless there's an item on the incentive package list that's not available at the prison, then what's the point of the packages? Don't get me wrong - I like the fact that Alabama gets them. However, for me, it was the personal satisfaction of going to the store and shopping for the items and sending them to him. Since that would no longer be an option, then I would have probably just sent him the money and let him get what he needed - unless there was a specific item (i.e. sweats, long johns, gloves, etc.) that he couldn't buy from the prison. I don't know - that's just my 2 cents worth. Care9 04-07-2005, 07:16 AM Hi Monica, When we did it, there was no clothes that could be purchased through it. And I got the list off of the internet and just ordered it without telling him what I ordered so it was a surprise for him opening it. What he didn't like, he was able to use for bartering and some of the stuff I ordered, I ordered for that purpose actually. So of course, the prison has to be making money on the deal or they wouldn't do it, lol. But I think what they like most is the fact that then they don't have to go through every single box, every single item, ya know? If I were in the management position and this was offered to me, I'd probably see it as a positive move. Sometimes it helps me to see if from the other side of the issue and although I don't LIKE some of the stuff they do, SOMETIMES it makes sense. Maybe not for us specifically, but I know that some of those rules that we personally don't break are there because others have. I imagine they got tired of finding contraband in the packages; people will always try to sneak things in and sometimes they aren't very smart about how they do it. I would imagine the co's in the mail room have interesting stories about what and how they have found things! As for the prices and availabilities of certain items? James says that it varied and some were better, some not. Like out here in the free world, I guess, it pays to shop and know your prices :D so you know where to shop! small town usa 04-23-2005, 12:47 PM I have used the company in the past, and for me, its much easier, just check-off what you want, send the money order and its shipped. Not having to worry about going out and collecting the stuff, packing-it, and hoping that its not to heavy, pass their inspections, ect. We are on the taking end, we have to take what they say and make the best out of it. DeniseJ 05-02-2005, 08:27 AM well, for some reason, Kenny said he couldn't have the package...i've called and they can't give me reason...i'm wondering if he's gotten in some kind of trouble and hasn't told me....i'm starting to wonder!!!! GSPack 05-07-2005, 10:12 PM This is the same company that handled the Christmas Food package. They are very reliable and the sooner you get your order in the better chances of getting what you order. Selna get your honey to mail you a copy of the order form..you can do it over the phone and pay for it by credit card. I only order the stuff that my daughter cant get at the store and the coffee they offer is larger in oz and cheaper I know that. Some of the stuff is higher like the Malto cereals..since it only cost from 76cent at Fred and 1.00 at a discount store. Not sure if the prison make money, but i know it save time for them to not have to xray the packages and they dont worry about weight...just limit the cost of up to $100. which includes a 3.95 shipping charge. Denise..the rules for being able to recieve these packages is on the website for Alabma now so see what it says and ask Kenny if he has any of these. Sorry he wont get one, but you can send him the $ and he can buy off the store this time around.... (((HUGS))) Gone Fishing MawMaw small town usa 05-28-2005, 04:42 PM Denise, if Kenny has not lost a visit, his telephone, or store draw, then he has not 'did' anything to bad, and dealing with those people they can and will 'deny' them for the least little things, so don't stress yourself out about it. If you have it, just send him a mo and let him 'do the best with what he got'. DeniseJ 05-31-2005, 08:25 AM thanks small..i finally got it straigten out...he's not had any "trouble" in 10 years, I wrote to the warden (price) and he is APPROVED to recieve the package... GSPack 05-31-2005, 09:29 AM Glad to see you back Denise and Glad to see that Kenny will get his pakage!!!!
