I have been pretty proud of the fact that through all this drama - I have been a homeowner for almost 2 years now. Although it was a great deal and it is a great house it was not brand new.

In the bathroom upstairs I had some work done recently to get it more up to date = BUT - I am still stuck with the old ball and chains style light above my new sleek medicene cabinet -

1. How hard is it to put in a new light -
Does not have to be fancy just basic

2. What do I look for when buying one?

3. How in the heck do I do it?

Daniel told me to always remember with electric that the live wire is always the ummmm black? red? wire? :D Ooppz

Any help would be great!

It's not that bad at all to get one installed, they're pretty straight forward. Go to your local hardware store, Home Depot, whatever it might be, find something that you like and buy it. Just be mindful of the fact that it's going to be in high humidity and might rust if it's a low end model. Most of the larger home stores, when they display bathroom lighting aren't going to sell you crap, as many people might think.

When you get it home read the instructions. Make sure that the power to the existing light fixture is off...I can't stress that enough. You are working with a live line!! If you're still nervous, go back out to the store and get a voltage tester, take it home and check the line. Depending on what model you have a light will go on if there is electricity going to the feed. You SHOULD see a few wires, something called Romex which contains the positive, negative, and ground wires in a neat little roll. You'll also see electrical caps which unscrew, they just keep the wires tight together.

With the old fixture, take it off the wall with the wires hanging out of the hole that it covers. Take the new fixture, line it up so it looks nice, screw it to the wall if it allows you to do that with the wires free. Some of them can be a real pain in the arse! Reconnect the wires, turn the power back on and you're set! :D

This sounds complicated than it really is, but if you followed me, then you're all set!! if you have any more questions, let me know!
