Anyone here know when DR inmate can call? Just got myself some penpals there and I would love to be able to have them call, but I want to make sure I am around when they are able to do so. Dont want to do the prepaid thing.

Also I think I read somewhere on here that express mail is worth it am I making this up? (can seem to find the post again. How much does it speed it up?

I can't answer your question about SQ and calls or even specifically mail but I know from experience at Pelican Bay in Ca. when I would send express mail it would get to the mail room faster but not out of there and to the inmate faster.Hopefully someone will be along with experiences at SQ to answer for ya!

Also I forgot, can someone explain if the reception and adjustment center are the same??

I am not sure about the calls from San Quentin either, I hear from the ladies here, the mail does run slower from there.
I dont believe you are allowed to take a camera to visit, I think someone takes the photos for you, and you pay.
I hope someone can come along and answers your questions soon.

He can request the phone and the cop will give him a time.... Its not always guaranteed though, theres lockdowns and the phones break, ect...

As far as the express mail...Dont waste your money. The mail room in SQ is a joke sometimes...

No cameras allowed at visits. If you want a visit he has to order a ducat.

Visiting DR, you can hug and kiss briefly at the beginning and end of your visit and hold hands during.

i can vouch for dolphina's reply about express mail...don't waste your money...while the facility receives it overnight or within 2 days, the inmate usually does not....when i sent one it took my friend over a week to receive it..so much for EXPRESS mail...

Hi, my fiance is on DR in SQ as well. The visits depend on where you coming from. Normally from Thursday to Sunday for 2 hours. On special visit for 4 hours. Pictures get made by prison staff, cause they need tokens do so and the money has to be brought from the visitors. But they dont only make pictures in cages. Me and my husband made one without a cage around. It also depends on what tier (security level) the prisoner is. Hope I was some help for you
