View Full Version : Dog Programs in Arizona Prisons? HuGzz 'N StUff 03-31-2005, 09:52 PM Can anyone tell me if any of the AZ Prisons have Dog training programs? My sister is interested in adopting a dog. Thanks! babygirl350 03-31-2005, 09:59 PM I don't know whether Arizona has any or not. But I do know that several states have them. Is she in Arizona? If she is in need of a dog for special needs sometimes there are other agency's that have them besides prisons. Good luck to you. I am sure someone will come along with some news for you. Tracy Well I guess then I am clueless because the only dog programs I have heard of in prisons are for people who have special needs, such as being blind, hard of hearing, not having much mobility seizures and other special needs. I didn't realize they also adopted them out to people who didn't have these needs. I think that is great, just wonderful. Yea, for all of the dog programs! melbo 03-31-2005, 11:09 PM Here's a little peice of an article about the pet program. You may want to call the number Arriana posted and with some luck they may have a dog that didn't "graduate". Good Luck to your sister on finding a new pet. Mel The nonprofit organization takes dogs from shelters and works with inmates at the Florence state prison to train the dogs for use as service animals for the disabled. Every dog is evaluated for temperament and receives basic obedience training, but not all are cut out to be service animals. Those who don't make it to graduation are placed in permanent adoptive homes as family pets. |
