Can a convicted felon obtain a passport? If so is there any felony that will prohibit the approval?
Thanks,

I cannot help you here, because I already had a U.S. passport upon my conviction, plus I hold dual citizenship, so as long as I can travel under my German Passport, I don't care if the U.S. renews mine anyway. Since I am still on paper though it will be a while till I get them back from the court.

However, the site that I am giving you the link to below may help:

http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html

I hope that it answers your questions. Good Luck!

Yes you can, BUT...

If you were convicted of a federal or state drug felony, and used the passport to cross an international boundary or some other way to further the offense. This disqualification lasts while impriosned or while you are on probation/parole.

The passport office also checks your name against a list. Basically, if you have any outstanding warrants, or child support owed over 5,000, you will be on this list. Also, any law enforcement can request your name to be placed on this list if they do not want you to get a passport, eg likelihood to flee to avoid prosecution, etc.

Generally, just because you fgot convicted does not mean you cannot get a passport, execepty for the child support issue.

cool. I was wondering this myself. Esspecially since you will need a passport to go to the bahammas and Mexico starting on 2008. I am off paper, and just the thought of having a passport would be cool.
