Ok first of all welcome to PTO I need to know if he is in the camp or in the main facility. If he is in the camp I could give you all the info you need but if he is in the regular facilty I can't help you there.

Hi JLove,
Hope all is well. I'm pretty new to PTO and I have a few questions about FCI Schuylkill myself. My boyfriend just got transferred there and am not aware of the rules and regulations. I have sent a few people on this site some questions, but again, I'm not too familiar on how this site works yet! As far as I know, I don't think anyone has replied yet. Have you received any feedback about the facility? If so, do you mind sharing? I'd appreciate your help:)

Take care,

I have a friend in FCI Schuylkill, and have been to visit him in the past. He is in the main facility, not the camp. Dress accordingly, they dont allow alot, your best bet is jeans/slacks and a nice shirt, but it must have sleeves, no khaki colored clothes are allowed to be worn because that is the color the inmates wear. The facility for the most part is ok, and the vending machines are not too bad. You can only take in a see through coin purse, and of course, you must show ID and be walking through all the lovely metal detector equipment... dont forget your ID. Also, there is ALOT of information about what is allowed and what is not allowed for visiting on the website for the BOP, I will be going back within the next month, close to Pitt here. I havent been there since last November when a member from PTO and I met up there. If you go to this page of the BOP
http://www.bop.gov/locations/institutions/sch/index.jsp
there is a link specifically for visiting at Schuylkill, it has everything on it that you would need to know as far as Rules and regulations, just click the link.... There is also a contact link specifically for Schuylkill if you need to get in touch with someone there, who could perhaps answer any questions you may have as well about visiting etc.... Hope this helps.

Are there any restrictions as to what can be mailed to Schuylkill (main facility)? Can they get books of stamps, 4X6 photographs, stationery and envelopes?

Does anyone know the limit of stuff (cards, paper, articles, etc.) that you can put in an envelope to Schuylkill? My friend there kind of brushed it off and said yes there is, but that everyone is over the limit so it doesn't matter, but I don't want stuff returned. I didn't really mean how much they could have. I meant how much can they receive. If anybody knows, that'd be great. Thanks. If not, I'll call them this week.

My husband is in FCI Schuylkill and is also in the hole. His release date is Nov. 24,2008 and he told me that he will still be out on that day, he will most likely be in the hole until then though. I'[m not sure how all that stuff works tho

I'm not sure at Schuylkill exactly but I can tell you from the USP they do release you from the hole. They don't have to do your "Merry go round" sheet. They recieve and sign thier release packet in the hole. And then they go directly to R&D from the hole, still escorted. It seems pretty silly but.... Hope this helped any other questions, my hubby is calling tomorrow--i can ask him. (He is back in on VOP) But his release date is 11/4/2008. Congratulations on thier releases!!!

My boyfriend is at Schuylkill and I've visited there once. Its way out in "no where" and is hard to get to unless you don't mind driving long, curvy roads. I flew into Harrisburg airport and had to taxi from the airport to the facility. The taxi cost as much as the flight plus I had no where to leave my belongings and was sooooo stupid I actually trusted the taxi guy with them. I couldn't even enjoy my visit because I was worried the taxi guy wasn't going to come back or he'd give my bag to another passenger. He showed up on time but the ride back to the airport was anything but appropriate (all you women know what I mean). So, I want to visit again and have been in contact with someone named Mia who runs a shuttle service to Schuylkill for a reasonable amount of money and it sounds alot safer. She gives you the full visiting time and runs the shuttle to other facilities so she sounds very reliable. If you'd like her info email me or post and I'll give you the company name, ok? Let me know if you have any other questions. Where do you live (state-city)?

actually i live 15 miles from that fed unfortently they put my man in petersburg fed i can help you with one thing if you plan on staying out here to visit him a couple of times the hotels in pottsville and schuylkill haven are 100x cheaper than staying in harrisburg, pottsville is about 45 minutes from harrisburg. minersville,pville.s.h. are all small old coal mining towns so there is nothing much to do out there unless you drink lol

Can anyone help me with directions from the Harrisburg Airport to the FCI Meduim, also I know that when I would visit him out here if we got to the facility earlier than when visiting time started we would line up off the compound is there anything like this at Schulkill???? Please HELP :( If you arrive early, you can simply sit and wait in your car. The main entrance is not far at all from the parking lot. It is an extremely short walk. I have been there twice this month on a Saturday and the lobby has been empty. No lines at all. Visiting is from 8:30 am - 3:00 pm. I've arrived between 10:30 am and a little before 11:00 am. If you arrive at 11:00 am you may have to wait a few minutes for the count to clear. But other than that the guards are extremely pleasant and the process to enter the visiting room is quick. The visiting room has not been crowded. No one has been asked to leave early because of overcrowdedness. Bring only $1 & $5s with you. There is a token machine where you can get change for the food vending machines. By the way, I've stayed at the 'Holiday Inn Express' in Frackville. It is only a few exits away--I believe its 8 exits away from the prison. It is located adjecent to the 'Schuylkill Mall'. A few brand name stores and a movie theatre. This was perfect for me and the kids. The Gave us something to do. But, I do recall also seeing a 'Country Inns & Suites' along the way. If you have any other questions, please feel free to PM.

*NOTE: Prison Road is located right off the exit (not far from the STOP sign). It is a hidden turn and if you are not paying attention you can easily drive right past it. My queue is that I know it is right across from the Pet Shelter (you'll see the sign when you make the right at the exit)*

My hubby was just moved there on Monday. We don't know anything about this facility so anything you can tell me would be great. Maybe we can travel together on a Saturday to visit together and save money on the gas and tolls.

My name is Joanna and I live in Bowie, MD. I would love to hear back from you.

Thanks
