My husband is in Calipatria, and I was there a week ago, and they weren't letting anyone out on the patio. I don't know if it's a one time thing, or if it's a permanent policy change.

That is so lame!!!! Those visiting rooms get to be so stuffy and hot. My man is in Ironwood and there have been time where we could not go on the patio but it was because of the weather (fog ect).

Well it appears that it was a big ole LIE from what I am seeing on here from the replies that have posted. I was told that it was handed down from Sacramento that ALL the prison have lost their patio and outside visiting stuff. So, now if they visiting rooms are full and there are no other chairs available you will be asked to leave. Just imagine having to leave your loved one just because you can't go out on the patio anymore... JUST ONE MORE WAY TO MESS WITH US

My Mother in law just got back from visiting at Avenal and she said there was a big sign saying the patio was closed... I don't know if its indefinately or what but she said they weren't allowed on the patio.

when i went to vist my son a castf we got to go out in the patio every 2 hours for 15 mintues. that was nice because it was hot and nice to be able to get fresh air. the patio is small. just a open grassy area no where to sit. but you dont have much time.

It was related to me that patio visitations require extra staffing. As long as there is no CO available, patios cannot open for visitation. All of the prisons are overcrowded and understaffed to supply this amenity to us. Just another day in the life of......... Tam

I just found out that they are going to extend the fencing hopefully as soon as they get word from Sacremento it's ok 4' and then put razor wire on top of it as well.

Geeze what amazes me is that at Avenal if someone did go over the top of the patio there are still 2 YES 2 other fences super high with razor wire PLUS the towers are there always have someone in them DUH!!! Talk about a waste of money ...

Word is that patios are only closed at SOME of the prisons -- Avenal is one of them. Due to lack of staffing, safety & security issues, etc. There are still several prisons that allow inmates and their families to use the patios, including the women's prisons in Central Valley, etc. It is NOT from Sacramento, but is an individual prison thing. Not likely to be a quick fix on those who are being shut down for patio visiting, either.....
Nancy, from Valley State Prison For Women, who are still using the patios.....

As far as I know Pleasant Valley still allows us to use the patios... I haven't been there for over a month though...
