First and foremost, if you've registered for chat but haven't activated your account via the email you're sent, then you won't be able to get into chat. Activate your account first and THEN try to get into chat.
Second, your username and password are absolutely case sensitive. An "A" is not the same as an "a".
Third, if you log in and don't get anything but a blank grey screen, do the following steps, one at a time, until chat works.
First step is to clear all your temporary internet files (cache). This usually fixes almost every web browser problem out there. Be sure to reboot/restart your computer afterwards (this is important!).
Second, if you're on AOL, do NOT use AOL's internal web browser. Use a real one like Internet Explorer or Netscape.
Third, if you still can't get on via chat, have you done all of your system's updates for software? For those of you on Windows, you need to go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and do all critical updates EXCEPT for IE 6.0 upgrade (that is not a critical update, mind you). Be sure to follow the directions and reboot afterwards. Try to connect to chat after that.
If that doesn't work, then it's time to upgrade your Java Engine. You'll need to go to http://java.sun.com/getjava/ and download/install their latest Java Engine. You need to reboot your system after that.
If you still cannot connect to chat, make sure that you don't have a firewall. If you do, then you need to allow access to 208.194.162.5.
If, for some odd reason, you're STILL not able to chat afterwards, please contact me at webmaster at therealms dot net and tell me exactly what you've done, what kind of a system and browser you have. If you need help in determining what kind of a system/browser you have, please go to http://www.therealms.net/sysinfo.php and include that information.
IMPORTANT: If you email me for support, you MUST include "PTN Chatter" somewhere in your email. The reason being is because I am responsible for 6 chat systems like your's, outside of my own chat systen, and I need to be able to tell who belongs to what site.
Hope this helps!
