Scottsdale probe links 154 teens to heroin, other drugs
SCOTTSDALE - Eight teenagers are facing drug charges and 146 are identified as drug users or sellers following an eight-month investigation into an alleged heroin ring operating in Scottsdale.
A report released this afternoon says that students reported using drugs or seeing drugs used on high school campuses firsthand.
The Maricopa County Sheriff's Posse will canvass neighborhoods in Scottsdale and northeast Phoenix.
They'll talk with parents in more than 700 households about their children's suspected heroin use.
Plans call for distributing fliers to parents detailing signs of addiction and offering resources for drug counseling and addiction services.
The sheriff's announcement has prompted the head of the Scottsdale Unified School District to announce changes that include drug searches and new drug prevention and education programs.
