Hello All,
Just wanted to share my first visit experience at Old Folsom to visit my son. It was WONDERFUL. ;) ;) My son got arrested on Easter 2004 and I haven't been able to hug my 20 year old until last Saturday (almost 1 year). Getting up at 4AM to drive 2 hours wasn't fun, running to get in line at 6:30AM for a visitor number was a new expereince, waiting 1 1/2 hours to get my turn in visitor processing was ok, but it was all worth it to see Kevin at 8:30AM. :D
I didn't have high expectations on the conditions of the visiting room facility but was pleasantly surprised. There was a large indoor room as well as an outside area with tables and benches. We stayed outside from 8:30AM until 2PM when I left. The weather was perfect, not too hot or cold. Indoors got stuffy and noisy so it was nice being outdoors. I had heard that the food wasn't that good and very expensive. Well... there were lots of choices in the vending machines: BBQ ribs, burritos, croissant sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, hamburgers, enchiladas, ice cream bars, chips, milk, soda, water, coffee, juices. If you think about what the prices are for these types things on the outside, the prices inside weren't horrible. I spent about $15 for 2 sodas, 2 coffee drinks, a bottled water, a tuna croissant sandwich, snickers candy bar, chocolate milk and an ice cream bar.
My son looked great and I know he was glad to see me. We had lots to talk about. It was so nice to not have any glass between us. I thought this day was never going to come. I jokingly thank him for giving me the opportunity to have all these NEW experiences!!! I am now a veteran visitor to Folsom :)
