Hello i have had these thoughts for a very long time but just now im going to do something about them, i am really considering going and learning more about becoming an officer.
I one minute think yes the next no, i would like to be a good officer not a nasty one and a game playing one, i will get more info and hopefully i will know a bit more plus even if i can get in to do the courses..
Just thought i would share this with you's, any feedback would be great..
Chezza that is great news. I think you will be really good at it. I know corrections are always hiring as well. Now, they dont hold weapons, and they are learnt to fix a situation without using violence, etc. I think it would be a really rewarding job, I know quite a few correctional officers, and they are great people, and compassionate as well. You would be great!!! Good luck and keep us updated.

Your volunteer work will be taken as a positive in relation to your application to join the service, but I am wondering Chezza if you have really thought this through not trying to discourage you at all, but it is a different world in there and it will impact on you as a person and for those around you.
The work the officers do is mixed , you can be a counsellor one minute and a disciplinarian the next. I have seen alot of new staff come into the service and they are bright and happy and full of ideas to hopefully improve the system, I have seen them years later and they are not the same person. Are you willing to make that sacrifice.
The only advise I will give you , at this point is , if you become an officer don't look upon what other officers are doing as being the norm, and adopt their practises look around and see how everyone operates and then make an informed decision on which one you will accept.
When you try and live upto someones else's expectations of how it should be run and you try and module yourself on that"you know one of the boys", and in particular how you should treat prisoners you will fail because your not being yourself and so begins the tug a war within you. I have seen many an officer fail and drop out because they tried to be someone their not. always be yourself.
Maybe you will be cut out for it and maybe you won't but don't become someone your not!!!
Good luck
I hope you do okay with your applications

Chezza, one thing to think of is if they will like that you have a partner incarcerated. Here in USA that would pretty much wash us out. Kinda curious about what Australia thinks about it. otherwise good luck. I have been a c/o and its hard especially if you try to be a good one and go against all the other officers.

If you make application and you currently have a partner inside , I don't believe that you will be successful in obtaining a position at this time.
Once he is freed and after a period of time and provided that you were not convicted of any offence yourself and further that corrections have not got intel on you from visitation it might be possible but it won't be easy I would suspect.

Hello and thankyou for your input, for 1 i dont have a partner in there i havent seen him in over 6 months we had a fall through due to his demands of me wanting to take shit in for him i said no and he got the wobbleys so i ended it as i am not going to ruien my carreer or life for him sorry but he doesnt mean that much to me.
As far as me applying for the position i have spoken with a few of the high people and i can still be accepted but i just dont attend any jail he is at.
At the moment i have put it all on hold as yes i have had second thoughts as yes ive watched and listen and i have friends who work in side and it is clear to me that it all changes when the uniform is on and to be quiet honest at this point of my life im not sure i want to be in there in the middle of officers and prisoners disagreeing with one another and all the corruption that goes on.. Im having time out for myself this year and really working on my veiws to where and what i want to do in life so no great hurry for me. Thanks both for your input it has helped me out and assured me that now is not the time to be making a decision such as. I dont want to go in and be incontrol like some i just wanted to go in and be a fair officer and give those a go that deserved it but hey does that even happen anymore? Take care.
