I heard from a friend today, that Alexander Martinez, Texas has given up on his appeals, and has volunteered for execution. He has a date set in March. He is seeking friends throughout this time.
If anyone is interested, and would like to send him a card for support, and friendship, please PM me, and I will pass you his address.

America has so many laws - why dont they pass a law against people giving up on their appeals - PM me his info i will send him a Xmas Card if you want. It is sad when people give up the fight to live.

I agree Keltria, its the state allowing suicide, and assisting at that. :(
Perhaps if he realizes that there are people out here that care, he may change his mind. If not, he will leave knowing that the world isnt that bad, and there are people concerned what is going on.

Kyla, I wrote him, and he asks for a consistent friendship for these last months. I find it hard to send someone whose last christmas it will be to send him a "merry christmas' card, let alone 'happy new year'. Although there are cards with snow and all with no text, i suppose. So I offered consistent friendship. We will see if he accepts it. His date is set on 10 March. :(

Abelle, thats a tough one. Perhaps a blank card people could send, letting him know he is being thought of this time of year. I dont know him personally, but he must be feeling really sad and depressed to want to give up his appeals. I hope that we can all make a difference in his life.

This breaks my heart !!!! And hits close to home...right around the time I started writing to one of my pen pals...he was at this point too...arguing with his attorneys to drop all appeals. He's since backed off !!! THANK GOODNESS !!! It is so sad...that someone sees no hope !!!!!!

Please PM his info I'll send him a letter.

This just makes me so sad. But I do understand in a way, the state, this society gives him no reason to hope and he probably is tired of the rollercoaster ride of hope and then devestation. But still, life is precious, including his and I do hope that through PTO memeber support, he will see this and not give up the fight (awful as it is)

You know, not to be a spoilsport of happiness here, and I for one am glad this has happened, but this is really not what the man wants. He is a volunteer, he explained to me in his letter that this is what he wants. He wants this more than anything in life. I learnt to respect his wish, and I appreciated his honesty. He wants this over. He was conditioning himself for this, he was "ok" with this, and now he has to do it all over again. I for one think this cruel. I accused him of doing the "state assisted suicide" deal, until he explained it to me. It gave me a different look on things. Sorry if people think funny of me in this aspect. I will never agree to the DP, but I can respect someones wishes.

Wow, I had recieved a letter from Alex last week and he was all set and ready. For them to change this on him must be hard, he had volunteered for this and his mindset was ready. I hope all goes well with him. Annabelle had given me his address a few weeks ago, and I find this young man to be a brave soul to do this.

I don't understand. Innocent people, and people who want to live get killed, but people who want to be killed don't.. It's one big mad house.

abelle

I do not understand it either! He was 'all set to go' yes, so this took me (and him?) by surprize! I have not heard from himself in 2 weeks. Now it seems like it is a literal postponement of execution...
I wish him the best,
Annabelle

I also feel sorry for the fact that they postponed this - I hope it is going well with him.

I can't even imagine the tortured mix of thoughts and emotions which must be running through Alexander's head right now. My thoughts and prayers are with him.

My prayers and thoughts go out to Alex and all his loved ones.

Isn't it freakin crazy how Texas always manages to mess with inmate's lives like its nothing important?! It gets me so angry. I hope that all goes will with the habeus corpus, and will keep my fingers crossed that the execution may get overturned. Let's all pray for a miracle!

I understand. I know.

I'm never "pro DP" or anything, but if someone is ready to go.....It's dif to me then. I keep Alex in my thoughts and prayers, his family and loved ones as well.

yes it is crazy! Alex is a brave man (thanks Nawna!) and he will be ok I think. But the emotional turmoil is quite something. Let's hope this is all for the good of Alexander.
I got a letter today!!! :) So that is something good for me!

I think his may be voluntary, but don't quote me on that. he was upset when they moved his date back anyway.

I'll be praying for him and his loved ones.

He has dropped all his appeals in the court, leaving way to his execution date. So sad :(

It's pitiful that inmates on TX Death Row are treated so badly and deprived of so much that men like Alexander Martinez waive their appeals. How bad are conditions when death is the preferable option? So sad. :( Not yet 30- but ready to die. May God bless him and his friends and family.

how horrible! I still say that we send letters of disproval. don't they have to file them with thier papers, like they do with parole?

hmmmmmmm. . . just a thought!

I guess he just lost hope. I am so very sorry. It is all so very sad. To not be 30 and have no hope left.

May God be with his family and friends also. This decision cannot be pleasant for them either.

Hola alejandro,
I will pray for you. I too was very close to my grandparents especially my grandma. She also taught me the meaning of the word LOVE. It comes in many shapes and ways. When we meet new people we can share our experiences with them and show them what love has taught us. My grandparents were also latinos. They also were soulmates. I will never forget them for they showed me the true meaning of love. May god bless you.... Alica

Anyone willing to mail it for me so it can get there sooner please let me know and I will e-mail it to them. I would really like to be able to say goodbye.
