I hope you’ll consider listening in to Voices from the Prison Action Network this Wednesday, February 23, at 8:30am when we’ll be discussing justice anddignity for women in prison and women who have been in prison
The program is at WRPI Troy,
91.5 FM or live on the web: www.wrpi.org. (http://www.wrpi.org.)
Judith (the program director) will be speaking to Andrea Williams, the project coordinator for ReConnect,a leadership training program for formerly incarcerated women. She’ll be joined by one of the graduates of that program. They'll be discussing issues that affect incarcerated women, such as parenting while in prison, sexual abuse and assault in prison, long sentences for violent crimes in which they were defending themselves, and ways they can avoid the lifestyles that brought them to prison once they are released. Judith asked Andrea and her colleague to be on the show because of their involvement with the Coalition for Women Prisoners’ 11th Annual Advocacy Day on Tuesday, March 8, in Albany.
There will be a local training session on Wednesday afternoon at
1pm for people who would like to join in lobbying our representatives at the
Capital, as well as a training session in NYC. Jaya Vasandani is the
person to call in NYC to find out more: 212/254-5700 x311, or
jvasandani@correctionalassociation.org. In Albany, the training is being
sponsored by The Center for Law and Justice and Alissa Credidio is the one
in charge: 718/427-8361, or acbeauty2000@hotmail.com.
