Pam, over the pass few years Kenny and I have from time to time talked about leaving Alabama for many reasons. The main reason being his case and all the people in our area that "knows" and after the stubid stunt the PB pulled monday I really ready to leave here. But its not only the prison system, its the goverment here, the school system,, heck it's even down to the trash pick up......the only thing here that i would miss would be my folks....

I don't live in Alabama but my significant other has been incarcerated in Alabama prisons since 1990, it is the only prison system I directly deal with.

Hi , I love Alabama! BlosoniHi Blosoni, I don't love Alabama itself but I sure do love a few people who are IN Alabama. (or have a loved one in Alabama) :p My husband is the one I've been loving the longest (27 years) but some of the awesome women I've met on here have given me even more reasons to travel there from Wisconsin. And many of them showed me an amazing amount of love when I was there a couple weeks ago. (You know who you are). It is the love and care (pardon the pun) we have for one another that makes it easier to have a loved one in prison. It doesn't make it easy, but it does make it easier.

I have been reading the post's for several months now trying to get an idea of what to expect while my boyfriend is in prison. I am new to all of this. My boyfriend is at Limestone and so far I have had 3 visits with him and each one has gone very well. The CO's are fairly laid back and easy going. This helps a lot especially in the beginning when one does not know what to expect.

Not to mention my commitment to my Prison Ministry Kairos Outside to which I was given the Agape Council Position for this year. This mean I must email and then organize colored sheilds and send them outby mail or internet if possible and our own state sheild to Kairos Outside Weekends that are being held world wide.

A journey of a child, woman, sailor and a mother from Italy.... :new: This is my journey of how I arrived here... bare with me I really need to get all this out; only daughter with 3 older brothers, parents divorced, mother was from Alabama (died in 2004) father from Kingston, Jamaica living in South Central, LA. Spent school years w/Mom and summers with Pops. Never dated, tomboy through and through, couldn't give it away (I did mention the 3 older brothers-all over protective bad asses). Now Pops was one of 15 children (14 boys and 1 girl all close). Like I said I couldn't give it away. Eigth grade, new transfer student from St. Louis, he was fine as hell! Played sports, All American, could've had any girl in the district. We ended up together, met and loved his whole family (his mom and I hit it off straight away, talked to her often, she said I was the only one who could control his temper and keep him outta trouble). My Mom loved him and Pops was pleased, brothers let him live with a verbal waring and all 13 of my uncles gave me the thumbs up  ! Together a year, pressure was on, lost my virginity got pregnant (first and only time we were intimate), freshman year in high school. Caught him kissing the local high school slut (who broke the entire football team in), said it was because I was always studying (honor roll, National Honor's Society, part-time job) or at practice, I walked away- no tears, no yelling, no emotion, just walked away. Rival high school snitched on him, playing in our district living in another. Kept pregnancy a secret (from everyone-even him, no medical care), kept playing basketball, softball, etc. Had to keep the grades up, not going to college wasn't an option. Couldn't disappoint alot riding on my future, didn't want to become another statistic, he didn't understand. His grades were average at best but he dominated the field, he'd have is pick of colleges. Lost the baby, EVERYONE(including him) found out the hard way, in the emergency room (20.5 weeks along-a boy). His aunt worked at the hospita; I hit the books hard, skipped my sophomore year became a junior, kept to myself. Still talked to his Mom and distant family here and there. Senior year, started dating the complete opposite of Touvoris, another nerdy type like me (even though I'd always liked the "rough necks"). Joined the Navy (reserves) went away to college, married the nerd, who also joined the navy; had a daughter, went back to Bama, to show off the kid and break the news of the ending marriage and going active duty. Saw his aunt in the store, she saw the baby & gave me his #, I took my daughter over, he was living with some cousins told them all she was his. He had dropped out and got caught up with the "life" his mom had passed (I never knew) all the siblings were out of control, he was trying to provide for all 5 of them using the drug game to secure their survival. I wanted to take him back to San Diego (where I was stationed). He declined, again, I walked away. Went back to Cali, finished my Master's, 4 kids later, divorce was final and I'd traveled the world, more than once; back to Bama to visit ran into the aunt again, she gave me the news he was locked up. She was on her way to visit him and wanted me to come, talk him into taking some deal. He was in the city jail, no bail. I didn't even know the charges, went in to see him, I picked up the phone and he wouldn't look at me, ripped his aunt for bringing me and walked out, I left, put money on his books & walked away, his aunt called me before I left for home (Japan, this time) and gave me his address and AIS#, a few months later I wrote to him positive words; over the years, sending postcards, writing letters, pictures, stamps here a money order there, the occassional box. He transferred all over Alabama from Bessemer to Mobile, we moved alot too, Trukey, Germany, Hawaii, Paris, Spain, DC, Bahrain, Greece just to name a few. August 2004 I get stationed in Montgomery, Alabama and I get a letter he's in Union Springs, Alabama a little over an hour away. He invited me to a ceremony graduation, I attended after the having the great "self debate." I had never seen him as a "grown" man. Mind you the last time I'd seen him was through glass and he wasn't even old enough to legally drink yet. I'd dedicated a good portion of my life learning about the legal system, prisons, the life, the inter-workings if you will. I became fascinated with it all. I've worked with many victims, spouses, parents and a few children. I am a firm believer of discipline, punishment and sacrifice. I didn't know what to expect. I chalked the "need" I had for this visit up to wanting closure. I went and endured the stares, cat-calls and the search which was brief (thanks to my badge), the ceremony was brief and he looked good, always had a strong work out ethic so I knew he'd be in shape but I still didn't know what to really expect, 18 years in the Navy prepares you for alot and a little all at the same time. For the first time in almost 20 years we sat down and talked, it was brief (a courtesy more for the badge than me). The next day was a scheduled visitation and I returned once more this time without the shield and went through like everyone else. I few months later he was sent to Staton which was much closer and I made it a point to visit often. I still kept things close and safe, we laughed & talked alot. My ex-husband was a classmate of ours, that laugh was at my expense. He's never married and has no children (he apologized for the loss of our son, we both think of him often). He never pushed we talked like old friends, you'd never know there was this huge time gap between us. In October 2007, we transferred to Italy and in November he was sent to JB Evans in Newellton, Louisana. I was in Texas recently for a seminar when I discovered this site and decided to join after reading some of the posts. I don't know how this will turn out, I know how he feels about me but I'm not stupid, I know how the game of life is played. I've been to the desert more times than I care to count, raising 4 kids, paying bills, living life. I know that if nothing else we will always be friends. I've always prided myself on being able to walk away from in situation ( I guess being raised by so many men rubbed off on me). I'm a realistic person, a single mom with 4 kids, being able to walk away from any unhealthy situation is must. Somehow, I can't seem to get that closure I'm chasing. We will see how it all turns out . Perhaps it will be happily ever after or perhaps I'll walk away:cool: . Thank you all for letting me get this out it really helped.

Welcome to PTO and The Alabama Forums..Take time to browse and read and just jump in. When you feel comfortable come on into the Lounge and tell us a little about yourself. We are like a big family here and some of our gals actually got to meet each other a few months ago. We are going to try for another one this summer..organizing inmate visit and kids and work and such we all try to workout one Saturday that a bunch of can get to gether and chat in person.
Without PTO and the special people here I would never have made it over the years. Esp just getting married (yelp I'm still a 59yrold newlywed)and having a 2 month baby dropped in my lap when I thought I was semi retired and looking to spend summer evenings in a rocking chair and baiting that hook and drowning a worm whenever I felt like 8 yr ago.......

Hi, welcome to everyone that's posted in this thread. This thread has gotten kind of old and out of date so I'm going to close it for now, and would urge anyone who's posted in here but not posted your own individual Introduction in the Alabama Member Introductions thread to please make a post and introduce yourselves again individually so we can all get to know you a little better. And welcome to everyone new to PTO and the Alabama forum! :)
