Does anyone know if I HAVE to have an attorney to file chapter 7 banckruptcy or can I file for myself? This is in Texas. Thanks!!

you dont need a lawyer to file. you do that yourself. they are lawyers that are helping you settle your debts. i've filed a chapter 7 4yrs ago.

I got one only because I didn't know what to do. And I didn't think of doing it myself or if I could do it myself.

Like the others said, you do not need a lawyer to file bankruptcy, specially if you are filing a Chapter 7, it is rather simple to do it pro se. For a chapter 7 you usually cannot own a vehicle that is worth more than $1-2,000 (each state is different). Before you file, make sure you have all of your creditors, along with the account numbers and dollar amounts.
