Has anyone seen this place from the inside, either as a visitor or as a resident, and can tell me something about it?

Jimmy.

Tunnels underground connect most of the facility. I have not been there in many years so can only comment on things from back then. Out of Maclearen, Camp Florence, and a number of other juvenile facilitys in the state of Oregon, I consider Hillcrest to be the worst for a number of reasons. If there was any advice i could give you if you have a family member there, its to make sure that you have them write you regularly about the medical staff and what medications they are being given. Keep a very close eye on this.

Worried Sis-My baby brother served time there some time ago. I visited him a few times and only remember the large bright visiting room. I can tell you that now that enough time has passed he's talked a little bit about his experience there. As his sister what I noticed most was when he went in he was still him-quiet but kind. Since then he's still quiet, but fierce very fierce. He said while he was there he saw a 9 year old boy hang himself and that's the most specific he's ever been when describing what he's seen. He definitely changed, but then again we all do regardless of whether we are locked up.

They are taking all the girls out of Hillcrest and re-opening Oak Hill Correctional Institute (I think that's the name) in Albany as an all-girls facility.

:oI just want everyone to know that hilcrest saved my life. I graduated high school, got treatment and got clean. It has a nice school, football fields, big cafeteria, game rooms, gyms and so much more. It is a good oppurtunity for incarcerated juvinilles to make the best of a bad situation. 2 1/2 yrs I spent there and it changed me for the better.

Welcome to PTO pink princess. It's always encouraging to hear positive stories of the system. Congratulations to you as it was your determination that was able to make the best of a bad situation.
