There were 6 stabbings in 6 days and they went on lockdown last Sunday (the 7th) and are still locked down...can't find anything in the news about the stabbings of course. When I called today and asked if they were still locked down the person who answered the phone said "Yea" and hung up on me...does anyone in MD know anything? I'm in Texas so don't hear any local news from there. Do they cover this stuff on the news out there? Is this 4 murders since Dec and 6 stabbings? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks.

There has been no coverage in the news at all... and yes.. from what I've been told (my guy is in the Annex) it has been 4 murders and 6 stabbings....
I called the other day as well.. and I was told that there was to be "no movement"- I asked when they could go to the store and get stamps and such.. and again I was told "no movement"
Gotta love the DOC...

There is a lock down in Washington DC at the CCA-CTF, do you know any info about that?

No, I don't know anything about DC either. I wrote a note (email) last week to the B-sun reporters who were covering the prison bus murder and asked them to stay on top of what's happening at MHC but no response and nothing in the paper. At least I rec'd two letters yesterday (a letter and a Valentine :) ). Yea, missbea...I love the DOC...I am learning all sorts of stuff on PTO about DOCs all over the world!!

Btw, I won't be coming to MD until later in March..maybe we will be able to plan a small gtg...MD gals??? :)

Good idea...think I will email them to see what they know..maybe with people contacting them, they will check things out. Or maybe not...

Well I just emailed all the stations except the ABC...can't get that page to load correctly so couldn't find their contact info...asking why there is no coverage of this. I mentioned the lockdown, the 4 murders and the 6 stabbings and asked if they were not able to get info or if they didn't think it was newsworthy...I wonder if we'll see anything in the news or if I will get responses..If I get responses I will share with you all. I emailed the B-Sun yesterday and the Gov and DOC a few days ago to see why nothing is released as a press release to the public...no response at all. Gonna go view the forum on the B-Sun to see if anyone is talking about anything there. I doubt it though!

I just found an AP article on the Baltimore Sun website regarding a lockdown in a CALIFORNIA prison posted Feb 13..but NOTHING on the Maryland House of Corrections Annex! Not a word! Obviously the troubles in their own back yard just don't matter!!!!

Here's the URL for that anyway FYI:

Look what I just found! Jillhill, just proves that sometimes we do have a voice! This was written about 10 minutes ago! Thanks Sun reporter Greg Garland for moving on this story :) http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/local/crime/bal-lockdown0215,1,7966795.story?coll=bal-local-headlines

Fingers are crossed that the TV stations will pick up on it too. Our guys/gals have a right to be safe even though they are incarcerated! Thanks for finding that, no1citygirl! What I didn't like is the article portrayed the guards as the only ones in danger..not other prisoners...or did I read something into it that wasn't there...oh well...at least the media is on top of it now.

No, I don't think you read into it. I got the same thing. I think if we remember the general attitude of the public about prisoners and the "deserve what they get" mentality, the story had to be written in that manner to get some sort of "valid" attention. "Who cares what happens to them (inmates) because if they hadn't done what they did, they wouldn't be there." attitude has to stop. WE know "who cares"! As soon as the general public stops the group think that has become the norm, the better. Maybe that is our purpose in life...to be advocates for the prisoners, to be their "normal law abiding citizen" voice. I know if every human being was really honest with themselves they could find at least one skeleton in their closet. The only difference between the incarcerated and the majority of the population is that the incarcerated GOT CAUGHT! :blah: Sorry, off my soap box for now! LOL :D I think I will write to the paper today also. I don't think we should let this rest. If we do our loved ones may be next.

Hey ladies just here to let ya know we do have a voice in MD, that voice is Greg Garland with the Baltimore Sun, trust me this guy cares about our inmates, he is very
anxious to hear any and all info we have on what's going on inside our MD prisons, he's here to help us fight for our inmates safety and all we need to do is contact him with info, yes I agree it's up to us to be advocates for our inmates, but with Greg's help we can also get publicity about the system, so let's do what we need to help Greg to help us and our inmates!!! Also when you click on the link for the sun article, go to "talk about it" and express your opinions!! Here is our opportunity to speak out and be heard!!! Let's go ladies!!

I wrote to the TV stations in Baltimore…except ABC because I couldn’t get their website to fully load (java crap)….they’ve finally reported something! However, these stories are identical because they just posted the AP story..except for the video which I could not load from WJZ (have to update my media player)! Didn’t find anything on WBAL.

I just watched the video. How terribly sad. He was only serving a 3 year sentence. How sad. I hope and pray that my husband is ok. He is in DC now, has not been sentenced and has not had a hearing. He is innocent of all charges and has a base level of 6, which means 0-6 months. He is in his 9 month now in a terrible place. The CCA-CTF has been in lock down since the 9th or 10th of February, they say it is normal once a year thing they do. I haven't heard from him since the 9th. And now with this terrible story my heart is uneasy. I would like to write to the news man, would you please post his email address? Thanks everyone for all your info. I appreciate it.
