View Full Version : Idaho Inmates moving to TX, MN and NM
A while back the rumor was Idaho was sending inamtes to WA state. I checked into it and was told that wasnt true.
I got a letter today from Chris and he said everyone got a memo saying 200 inmates had to be moved. It looks like they are sending them to New Mexico, Minnesota and TEXAS
He doesnt think he will be one to go, but like he said the DOC would rather send them out of state then release anyone.
It seems this has stemmed from the recent bunks that had to be removed from the DOC.
I will keep everyone posted on any new developments
jessnkat 02-09-2005, 03:00 PM Well, and here I THOUGHT that Texas was near capacity, yet they can take out of state inmates......hmmmmmmmmm.....kinda makes you wonder about things.
But.......I DO know of one bed they can free up in Texas!
Just kidding Tanya, I really hope this doesn't happen. I just don't understand why they want to send them so far from home and family!
jftazzy102 02-09-2005, 03:11 PM Texas is full to their capacity, how are they going to hold out of state prisoners. They can always send my man home.
Retired-18 02-09-2005, 03:52 PM Private facilities always have room for out of state transfers. I saw something in regards to this on Business Wire this morning. TNC I hope that Chris gets to stay right where he is but if he does get moved to H*** you can always crash at my place.
asweetangel99 02-09-2005, 03:58 PM Or if its Minnesota, you can come visit me  in Wisconsin :)
Well thank you everyone for all the offers. I sure hope it doesnt come down to this. If it did having a place to stay wouldnt do much good when I dont have the money to get there.
I sure hope they take into consideration family status, visitor status and anything else that will keep him here.
If I hear anymore on this move I will keep everyone informed
MrsSweets 02-09-2005, 07:14 PM What I heard was that they were asking for volunteers first. If 200 inmates don't volunteer, they will go random....If one our Idaho's inmates go to Texas, will they be treated according to Texas law??? What if Parole hearing is coming soon?
I think Idaho prisons are safe places, but I don't trust any Texas'

I dont know if they are taking volunteers or not, but it makes sense that they are asking those who dont have any family here. I would guess if they dont get enough volunteers then they will start by taking ones who arent married or dont have many visitors. I could be wrong, but why take someone who gets visits all the time over someone who doesnt.
I also think they will take ones who have a longer sentance. It wouldnt be cost effective to take someone who could be coming up for parole real soon

Like our guys, right?? :o
Before I go up there like mad to marry him, I think it's good that they know he has friends who visit and his young daughter, his business, etc....maybe when you have a business it can help you stay in ID.
suni_baby 02-09-2005, 10:35 PM Have they said if its from all of the facilitys? Jeremy hasn't mentioned anything to me. I am truly hoping that they won't take him. I doubt it but you never know, hes been moved before. I figure since hes in ad-seg is why they won't take him. I really don't know if 200 people will volunteer to go somewhere else. I would think that if they felt safe and secure where they were the guys don't like getting out of "routine". Just my opinion.
Washington has been shipping inmates to Nevada, Colorado and Minni-snow-da for years. Colorado and Minni-snow-da are private prisons.
****** fingers crossed for Idaho members*********
If any of your guys get transfered........ Check out the WA OST (Out of State Transfers) Sub Forum for out next OST Chat!!

Retired-18 02-09-2005, 11:02 PM If (and I pray that this will not be the case for anyone) your loved one is transferred to Texas then yes they will have to abide by TDCJ rules while in TDCJ. Here is the catch, the facilities they are going to are under TDCJ in that they are supposed to abide by TDCJ policies. Most of the private facilities in Texas don't. In some cases that is good such as phone calls that are not supposed to happen and extended visitation but in some cases that is not good at all, think Lord of the Flies. Texas is over ninety seven percent capacity at this point so I would not stress to much on a move there unless CCA is planning a building boom that I haven't heard about.
Provided my kids are all well this weekend I will be seeing Chris. I will see what else he might know. I also have the email for the transfer coordinater so I might try and see if he can tell me how they decide who will go and when this is expected to start.
I know that in the past they have sent inmates to NM and MN, but never TX as far as I know.
jimbo's EX LADY 02-10-2005, 12:13 AM Hopefully no one will ever be sent to Texas. They can't take care of the inmates they have here to begin with. We are almost full capacity here in HE**. This is a place that I hope no one has to deal with. The dogs down at the local pound get better treatment than they do. ok I will shut up now before I start venting.

I know this isnt much more info, but here is the email I got back so far. The next thing will to be try and get a copy of that memo that went out. It seems the criteria is listed on the memo
The memo requesting volunteers for out of state transport did not
mention a specific amount. The final decision to go out of state has
not been made, the number to send out of state has not been made. Once
the decision is made to go out of state we hope to have enough
volunteers to cover it; if not, the criteria listed on the memo in
question will be used for non volunteers.
suni_baby 02-10-2005, 05:54 PM They are so helpful aren't they? :banghead: So who got the memo? Did the inmates or just the staff? Just a few questions that came to mind. Thank you so much for all the info you provide us with Tanya! :)
I'm not sure who all got the memos. I would guess that since they are asking for volunteers the inmates must have gotten them. Or maybe they were posted in locations for all inmates to read.
I would like to see a copy of the memo myself so I will try to get a copy. If Chris cant get a copy maybe he can at least copy down what one says and send it to me that way
Chris and I were talking about this move today. He said he heard there was already 400 inmates who volunteerd to transfer. I asked why and he said "because everyone hates this state". I told him a bit about TX and he said that he knows of one guy who actually liked it there and heard that a lot of others wanted to go to TX. From what I understood this one guy was in a TX CCA before, but I cant imagine that anyone who actually wants to go there has a clue what they are in for.
I really think its a case of the grass is greener on the other side. They really dont know how well they have it here. I never really knew how easy Idaho prisons were until I started reading about other states. For the most part its quiet here.
