From what I've seen, they are fairly restrictive. One my son ordered was rejected due to some of the content, but I don't know which one it was. Any obviously pornographic, or the like, will be rejected. It's probably best to ask him which ones he wants and order them for him. I think there is a catalog or list of some kind that they can choose from and order direct themselves. DeNada 02-05-2005, 09:52 PM Just an additional note. You cannot send any books, magazines, internet material (no printed downloads, etc.) or photocopied material to him. Pictures must be on regular photo paper (5x7) and I think the limit on possession is 10 loose and one album (a particular kind he can get there). erinanderson 02-06-2005, 12:52 AM From what my husband told me, they have no problem allowing pornographic material in the general population. He has seen Maxim, Playboy and Hustler. He himself recieves the Smithsonian, National Geographic and Newtype magazine. As long as it is heterosexual pornography and no homosexual, it seems to be okay. He had an anime drawing book rejected because it had two girls kissing in it. So they are restrictive when it comes to that. Of course certain levels have different restrictions I am sure. DeNada 02-12-2005, 08:02 PM I just talked to my son and asked him what type of magazines are allowed. He said there is a list (a thru q) of prohibited material. He said that pretty much as long as there is no depiction of any type of penetration, it is allowed. That said, a friend of his had a magazine (Muscle, i think) rejected because two girls in bikinis were posed with their hands on each others' shoulders and it was deemed to be lesbianism. A bit moralistic for me...... missyou2 03-16-2005, 09:31 PM DF told me he isn't allowed to have any magazines at all. he said the only think I am allowed to send him is stamps, phone cards, and a couple pictures. Do you think this is because he is in a different brig? I would love to send him magazines. Thank you for the headsup about internet articles, I was about to send him some. DeNada 03-16-2005, 09:55 PM Each service branch has their own regulations. Since you say he is in a brig, I presume he is Navy. I am only familiar with Army regulations and those at the USDB (which houses prisoners from all service branches). It is possible they do not allow magazines. It is also possible that the reg is that YOU can't send him magazines (same as USDB), but he can order them, or you can subscribe to them in his name and have them sent to him. He should check the policy on that with the brig. Good luck. |
