I just filled out an online application for an estimate. My friend just asked me for my phone number and I thought it'd be better to just go ahead and set up tele-net before I get charged a ton for a phone call. Anyone know if this is the cheapest for calling from Washington to Tehachapi? How long does tele-net take to set up? Also, if he doesn't call, is there a monthly standard fee or something? Thanks.

joyk, it doesn't take long at all... once you get your estimate (which they should get back with you pretty quickly), then you just fill out the application they will send you and send it with the money order, I think it took all of about a week for mine to get set up after that.

I am sure the rates vary from state to state but for my Tele-Net number I will be paying about $17 a month for the remote call forwarding plus about $3.95 a month... and that's whether he calls or not. But I don't mind it in the least seeing as how one lousy 15 minute call the old way was $20 just for the call!!

One of Tele-Net's reps hangs out here and will likely be along after the weekend and can better answer your questions, but that above's what I'll be paying. I'm very happy about it!!!

Hi Joyk,
I'm with Tele-Net and Lysbeth explained it pretty well. We should e-mail you a quote within 24 hrs. The quote should include an application which needs to be printed, completed, signed and returned with the application fee. Once we receive your application it takes us about 7-10 days to get everything set up and working. We then call you with the new number and the prisoner can start using it right away. There is a monthly fee of about $20 regardless of calls. If you have questions you are welcome to call me at 1-888-925-1400.
